The last 5 years or so I have made a large food gifts for my daughter-in-law and my stepdaughter and husband! I do had some bought things that I know they like. I make, candy, bread, trail mix, cookies, cocoa mix, add summer sausage, cheese, crackers, and it goes on and on! Lots of work but they always love it! Do you make food gifts?

Yes, I make white chocolate almond bark, dark chocolate with crushed candy cane in it, peanut brittle, and a variety of other chocolates for very close family members and a few dear friends who usually ask for it.

@Marilynda1225 The recipe is actually done in the microwave in under 10 minutes. And I've been making it for almost 30 years and have had so many requests both for the recipe as well as for some when I make it. I'd share some with you if I could.

@Marilynda1225 And I make them with no preservatives. It is more healthy and they will be eaten so soon that none is needed.

@Margielynn That's the way I feel. Something hand-made is special. It's a part of why the kid pictures we get find their way to our refrigerators.

@Margielynn I was given shortbread in the shape of Christmas trees and bells once. They were in a big glass jar with a big red ribbon round it. It was a lovely gift.

@Margielynn (175), I make home-made gifts every year, especially for special people. Cakes, breads, candies, cookies, etc. Sometimes I do the soup ingredients and hot chocolate ingredients in the canning jars. Everyone loves them. You just have to add water. I got a couple of cute ones.. one is called Snowman Soup, and you just had water. I will write a post on it in a minute and take a picture of the one I have here. I love making the gifts.

I used to always make food gifts for the holidays but in recent years I haven't been so successful because of the oven that's in my house. It's unfortunate but it takes my oven 20 minutes to cook something that should be done in 10 and it says it's at the right temperature and everything. I don't know if it's because I'm a little higher up in elevation but I can't tell you how many cookies that have been ruined because it's nearly impossible finding out what temperature and for how long I should be cooking them. It's made me make no-bake treats now because I just can't trust my oven anymore.
