The sunflowers survived though the sun didn't

My sunflowers have survived all the rain and the bad weather, though the sun is fighting a losing battle with the clouds at the moment. Some of you may remember that I was worried about my sunflowers when I went away for a few days. I did report back saying that the sunflower plants did survive. They did not only survive but they are flourishing. I have noticed that there are about twenty+ buds on my plants which is just one and a half feet tall. I love these shorter varieties for containers. There were a couple of blooms from the two of the plants. I just took a shot on my phone and the sight of the sunflowers really cheered me up. I was really sad that the rain washed away all the colors of my garden.. but the sunflowers seemed to have stood their ground. Hope you have a bright sunny day!

All my sunflowers have gone, I will plant more next year in Spring, so I can collect the seeds for the birds.

@LadyDuck I have them all year around except in the rainy season.. The unseasonable rains seemed to have done them no harm as yet.

It is good to hear that despite inclement weather your sun flowers are blooming. I feel that you would worked hard to nurture them and keep them in good health, therefore, they survived and making your garden more beautiful. The picture of sunflower, which you uploaded is awesome.

@TexanTornado They have survived droughts, but I didn;t expect them to survive this onslaught of rain. They are hardy plants indeed.. makes them all the more lovable to me.

@fawkes62 Aww that is sad.. These plants have so many buds on them I am wondering if they need to be feed some more.. The rain leaches out all the nutrition from the containers.

@sofssu (6915), I love sunflowers, and they grow here pretty well because I think the birds kind of plant them when I feed them. And when they grow, you see all those little seeds in the middle. And if you don't pluck the sees out, the little birds will come and get them. The Goldfinches love them. I do love the sunflowers, and so glad your's flourished so well.

20 buds in a plant! That's amazing! I'd be the happiest if I get just half of that in my sunflower! Great they they survive. I am not happy to see plants losing flowers or dying because of the weather and pests.
