Job security

What most people don't know is that "job security" depends very largely on the next available decision-maker closest to them. Doesn't matter if we're in the government service, in the corporations or in universities. If the next available decision-maker closest to us is not intent on keeping us on staff, they will look for ways and means to show us the door. Avoid organizations and industries where decision-makers change often. The next fella who comes in may not like us very much. Those are the organizations and industries that have low job security.

It always happens. Some big companies allow you to ask for job transfer to another department. I think the worst is those cunning bosses that praise you when they see you, and then collect all evidences of your mistakes so that they can fire you.

That is why there are unions in some jobs to prevent that happening. If it is left up to the boss then he can do whatever he pleases.
