I Hate Moving

As some of you know from reading my discussion yesterday, my brother and I are moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are supposed to leave around the 30th of November so that my brother can begin working at the new property the first part of December. This was all last minute and we are still kind of in shock. We won't be able to have Thanksgiving with my kids like we had planned. They were going to come to our house. Now, we have to spend the next two weeks packing. Have I mentioned that I hate moving? We have moved so much over the last year and a half. We moved from Las Vegas, NV to Memphis, TN where our family lives. My brother couldn't find a decent job so after 8 months, we moved to Jonesboro, AR. We have been here since February. Now my brother is being transferred and we have to move to Wisconsin. Except for the 5 or 6 years I lived in Vegas, I have always lived in the south. I hate cold weather and now we are moving where it is going to be really cold in the winter. And there will be a lot of snow. I do love snow but will probably get tired of it after a while. I'm a little scared and nervous as I really don't know what to expect. I am trying to stay positive and see the good in the move. My brother already feels bad because we have moved so much and he feels like he has let me down. But, at least he has a job and we are both thankful for that. Relocating is part of his job so we just have to go with it. I will try and be on here as much as I can over the next couple of weeks but if you happen to see me missing for a while, you will know why.

I've moved around 30 times since we married but a few years ago when retired we finally bought a house and love knowing we will be here until the undertaker takes us away. I like with martin said - it will be fine, you will learn to love Wisconsin. Its the land of lakes isn't it? If it is, it will be beautiful!

My brother got some good news last night so we might not have to move at all. Will know more on Monday. With you moving so much in the past, do you hate moving as much as I do.

@PainsOnSlate I didn't mind moving when I was young either. But now it's the last thing I want to do. And thanks, I hope we hear good news today too.

@simone10 I loved moving when I was in my 20's, 30's, every move was a new adventure. Once the kids got into school I hated it and when they got into High School we still moved but kept them in the same schools. Renting suited our life style, my husband moved because of work often, Now, I don't want to go anywhere... I hope you get the news you want to hear. I understand how you feel.

I can imagine this is not going to be fun but it will be an adventure. God usually has a plan so lets see what he has planned for you.

Moving sucks, no way around it. Even when it's a move you are looking forward to, the actual moving sucks. My biggest tip for you is to get a good winter coat, hat, and gloves or mittens (or both). The cold sucks after a while, but the positive is there are few bugs around during the winter. Good luck with the move.

After a phone call my brother got last night, I am hoping we don't have to move but will know more on Monday. I agree, moving sucks and so does packing. I hate to pack. If we do end up moving, I am not looking forward to the cold at all.

The biggest problem that I have experienced from moving home is that the furniture does not always fit the new premises too well. This results in having to purchase some new items and dispose of others.

wow, what a time of year to move to Wisconsin! It will be cold, but the summers will be beautiful there. It is not hot and humid like in the South. Good Luck, and enjoy!

I am familiar with Milwaukee and I think you will like it, that is, after you have gotten used to the cold weather. People from the South who move up North tend to underestimate their winter wear. Get a big stuffed (down preferably) quilted coat with a hood, thick gloves and scarf, some very warm boots, and plenty of hats. When it's really cold, no one thinks of fashion. Wisconsin is a beautiful state with many lakes and forest preserves. Hope you like cheese.
