Can't wait for Thanksgiving!

Some years when the grown kids go to inlaws for Thanksgiving, my husband and I have gone out to eat. But this year ALL our kids and grandkids are coming home! Even our little great-grandbaby and a niece from Arkansas. I've got the ham and now need to find a turkey, plus all the ingredients for our dinner. Our menu (besides turkey and ham) will be sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole, butter beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, dressing (stuffing), cranberry sauce, rolls, fried corn bread, Watergate salad, and of course sweet tea! Dessert will be chocolate, pecan, and pumpkin pies and cheesecake. What menu do you usually fix for big dinners and holidays?

I love Thanksgiving, as I get to spend it my son and his wife and kids. His wife has a big family, so there is around 15 of us around the table. We really have a great time, as we reminisce and it is great as we have good times and lots of laughing as well.

@1creekgirl Oh yes, that is for sure. It is really great, and my daughter-in-law is a fabulous cook, and lots of food to be eaten, and we get stuffed. She makes about 8 different pies along with the turkey and all the trimmings. I look forward to going to my son's again for Thanksgiving.

@ivyparkgirl I do very much, as i can spend the day with my son, and family. I have a small family, but my daughter-in-law has a large family, so there will be around 15 of us sitting at the table. It is great as we reminisce and really have a good time.

I don't think I realized it isn't celebrated there! But I when I remember how it started, I guess it is an American celebration. Do you have a similar holiday there?

If I make them turkey dinner, they will get turkey, potatoes, some vegetable or other, dressing, cranberry jelly and maybe squash. And some kind of pie. Maybe some pumpkin bread. But that's all that I can handle and if they want more variety, they'll need to go out.

I hear ya. My daughter is pretty good about helping cook, but I know the day is coming (if I live long enough!) when I won't be able to do all that cooking. I start several days ahead and do as much as I can then. Some time we'll go to our daughter's house or our son's; he'll probably be married by then.

I'm also excited about Thanksgiving. It's the first one in awhile that the whole family and all the grandchildren will be together.

We sometimes have Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, that would traditional from my side of the family. Now living in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October with Turkey and all the other delights you mentioned.

@1creekgirl I was born and raised in the US. We moved to Canada because of my husbands work in 1985. We like it here and have duel citizenship with both countries. We are staying here.
