Cendol. An interesting taste concept.

In Melaka, Malaysia I ate Cendol, seen in the picture. It is a very popular dessert/snack here.
At the bottom of the dish were red beans, corn kernels and green noodles (jelly like noodles which carry the name cendol, I think). Over this was put some shaved ice, then poured on the top was coconut milk and Gula Malaka (a malysian version of palm sugar which tasted like butterscotch; very yummy. I really enjoyed the top half, but by the time I got to the bottom half, the top sweetness had melted, and I was then eating a mouthful of corn, sugar, coconut milk, melted ice and beans. It was not quite as nice. Would I have it again. Yes, most definitely, I'd just eat it faster. It was very refreshing. Have you tried Cendol? What unusual foods have you tried?

It is popular in our place here too.
I think you have not learnt to enjoy it as the locals.
For us, we mixed up the ice and ingredients at the bottom before we start eating.
We do not really start eating at the top, and eat our way down.
Anyway it is your first try! You will get better the next time.

Ahh @scheng1. That makes sense now. Next time I will try mixing. But does everybody like the beans and cendol noodles on the bottom as well as the sweetness on the top? Why wouldn't you put something like banana pieces at the bottom instead of beans? Or...perhaps I am just a sweet tooth! Thank you for explaining. I will certainly try it again, and I will mix it, now that I know.

Yes. @bookbar I reckon I will have to stop talking and eating at the same time!

The top bit sounds and looks yummy. Not so sure about the base though.

The top was very nice. I think I would make it smaller, and just have the top part if I were to make it myself.

@JadePlatypus Yes, who needs the yucky bits? Just have double the good bits.

@Auntylou I watched them making one before I purchased one, but people were queueing for them, so I thought that there must be a reason for the popularity. I lined up too! I can imagine it would be an ideal treat in the humid heat.
