Why do I have to wear a political label?

In the past, I've been loathe to participate in political discussions and I'm not sure that is really going to change. I consider myself apolitical. I have conservative acquaintances that consider me to be liberal scum and liberal ones that see me as a heartless conservative. Maybe that's the reason I often keep my political opinions to myself. I have good friends that strongly identify on both sides of the political divide. You should see some of the stuff that rolls by me on my Facebook feed, especially from my American friends. How do you people keep from killing each other? Am I liberal or conservative? It doesn't matter. I can think for myself. I might take the liberal view on one issue and the conservative view on another. I've been around long enough to know that some things just don't work and that others just aren't right. Please don't take from me my right to think.

Sounds as if you're a lot like me - able to see the good and bad in most parties but a bit 'on the fence'.

If we can call accepting the good from both sides and rejecting the bad, I am content to be called a fence sitter. My opinions though are often quite strong on most issues.

@koopharper I did one of those 'where are you on the political spectrum' tests and I had some pretty extreme views - but I also had extreme views in all four quadrants that meant I ended up sitting on the cross hair.

@boiboing Funny I took one of those on Facebook and landed almost smack on the cross hair as well. It was not quite what I was expecting.

Overthrow the government. Put all the politicains and bankers in jail. Start your own currency outside of the central banking system. Run entirely from self-sufficient energy. It worked for Iceland why cant the rest of the world follow suit? If we don't the rich will continue to get richer and the poor will die.

Our rich need to get it through their heads that the common hardworking person has to have enough to survive or none of us will.

It's your choice! You don't have to allow yourself to be labeled. I understand what you mean about Americans not killing each other, though. I ask that myself sometimes! Some people enjoy getting riled up about things and I admit that I do at times, but not always. Sometimes it's just not worth the trouble.

Politics and religion are two subjects most likely to cause argument, and often best avoided

I agree 100% Politics is not a football game you don't just pick a team and agree with everything they do. It is truly sad because in America if you don't vote either republican or democrat your vote is practically worthless.

A good idea is a good idea whoever thought of it. The opposite is also true. I like to be able to disagree with something without making enemies. Party politics in Canada are really not that far off what I see south of the border. We have what looks like two main choices.
