Laptop or desktop - what would you prefer?

I am planning to buy a new computer for my daily use. But I am a little bit confused between laptop and desktop. While laptop has the advantage of portability, we cannot ignore desktop's low maintenance costs. A desktop is more repairable than a laptop. But I think portability is a definite edge of laptops over desktops. I think nowadays high performance laptops are available in the market. At the same time I can have a desktop with the same configuration at a cheaper rate in the market. I am very much confused in fact. Can you help me to take a final call?
