Guns~ pros and cons

I write this article living in England, where guns are illegal to own except for hunting and even then are not the easiest thing to obtain. A while back when the elections were taking place a party called UKIP (essentially a bunch of nazis/fachists) proposed that if they were voted into party they would legalize guns across the UK. I personaly couldn't think of anything worse. I've never been to America and would really like to go, but i still find it absolutely rediculous that the right to 'bear arms' is absolutely proposterous. I know you can aruge that you need it for protection etc but surely if not everyone in the country was allowed a gun there wouldn't be as much of a need to protect yourself, i know you could still be attacked, knives are quite popular in this country for criminals, but why not either learn to somewhat defend yourself or carry some pepper spray. I know a lot of people will probably have mixed opinions on this subject but in my book letting everyone in the country own a gun is just asking for trouble, what does everyone else think? Peace.
