We have a squirrel in our fireplace

A few days ago my wife came into my home office to inform me that there was a squirrel in our fireplace. It was making a lot of noise as it apparently tried to climb out. I had no idea what to do, so I did what every tech-savvy person does in the 21st century - I did a Google search. But it was disappointing. The only reasonable advice I found was to climb up on the roof and lower a rope through the chimney so the squirrel could climb out. At my stage of life and health, climbing up on the roof is a non-starter. So, I haven't done anything. Actually we haven't heard anything the last day or so. I'm really, really hoping the little critter was finally able to climb out. If he did, we'll both be heaving a sigh of relief.

I guess the little guy found a way to climb out.

Oh I do hope it managed to find its own way out the chimney. :)

That's the best solution for it and me!

I hope he got out instead of hiding out somewhere in your home! They can be really destructive. I had a squirrel in my attic one time. We thought we caught a time when she was gone and closed up all the entrances, but I heard her again and had to go open one up so she could leave.

We have dealt with unwelcome visitors like that. You need to get a live trap and bait it with peanut butter spread on an apple or a piece of bread. Put the trap at the edge of the fireplace. When it snaps, you can bring the little critter outside. If the squirrel is apt to get back in, you may want to find him a new home, but if he is usually not a problem, you can just let him go in the yard.

I'm sure he did. Animals are quite intelligent and find some crazy ways to take care of things like that

Let's hope that he got out safely. Let's hope he didn't die in there and that you're in for a week or two of horrible smell. But no-one would wish that on you.
