Will Deleting a Discussion on myLot Also Delete the Associated Earnings?

I saw in a recent discussion by Ann LeFlore @poehere from French Polynesia, her suggestion to delete discussions that don't get any responses. Cool idea. But the issue also raised a red flag for me based on my experience with other sites. Taken one step further, I wondered what the impact would be on those discussions that people did participate in? Typically, on other paid to write or paid social media type sites, when posts are deleted, that often results in any associated earnings including comments and likes with surprise deductions for all. That means the original person who posted and the people who participated in the discussion would get dinged and money taken out of their bank. I like Ann's idea of freeing up server space to get rid of inactive, no response or limited response duds but wasn't sure of the monetary impact. Besides, no response doesn't always mean not viewed. So theoretically any discussion still has merit. It's tough enough earning here so I would hate to throw away pennies. Does anyone know if that's the case here at myLot? You earn only for interaction here. A discussion with no responses/comments earns absolutely nothing, so deleting it will not affect your earnings. However I do not see a good reason to delete a discussion with no response, as members can respond months or years later : it is a sleeping capital.

Agree with this, a discussion has the potential to receive comments any time.

Very cool concept. The ultimate in passive income "sleeping capital" --- I had not heard that term before. But do check out the tip from @rosekiss on revamping the post to make it "working capital"

Thank you for seeing the sense in leaving content for people to comment on in the future. I often scoot around MyLot looking for interesting posts. I don't look at the dat when I comment.

Although, in the previous version of MyLot, it certainly affected one's own earnings and those of any others involved in a discussion when a discussion was deleted, I am assured on the highest authority that the new algorithm does not do this. In other words, deleting a discussion which already has responses and comments will have no effect on anyone's earnings. I believe that, if a discussion is deleted by Admin because it violates the Guidelines, then the person who committed the offence may be penalised but not anyone else.

I think that sounds like gaming the system and I seriously hope people don't start competing here for top discussions like they did at BB. So far this has been friendly and non-competitive. I really hope it stays that way and the daily discussions don't devolve to issues such monitoring rules and who's posts are "Most Interesting" or "Hot"

@NeldaHoxie Once I get the rhythm and mechanics of how this site and community interact, I know I'm looking for some serious help from the online community on how to get back on track with writing online as a way to make money. I know you've found a way to do so Nelda. For myself and I'm sure many others, it's a slow, slow slog and I'm just starting to look into affiliate marketing, e-Books, etc. The task is daunting. So, for me, I hope I can reach out to the myLot community as a resource to help point me in the right direction. I'm not so much looking for myLot to a be an income source but rather an online community that can support one another in their online endeavors. I know everyone has different reasons for interacting here but I'm thinking this my be one of the best places to share our communal learnings.

Thanks for weighing in @owlwings -- hopefully, we can get @GoAskAlice to provide some clarity or confirmation as well including the issue about what happens when discussions are deleted. If that's the case where deleting a discussion doesn't impact anyone's earnings even with comments and activity, I suppose there's always the potential for abuse for people to delete old discussions that had a lot of activity and then resurrect the issue as a hot topic down the road. I don't have a problem with that as it still requires the person posting to actively moderate the topic. thanks @poehere for kicking off the initial discussion.

If a discussion has no responses, then no earnings are lost. I like the concept that if we don't interact with others, then we don't earn. I deleted some old discussions of mine that did have comments, but since they were posted in the old mylot, no earnings were affected. I also rewrote some of my old discussions, which meant deleting them and starting over, and since then, I have had responses and comments to them.

Well alright then. That's a very handy tip. Rewrite and repost to get more eyeballs in front of the discussion. You make a good point that it's on old discussions plus with new people joining everyday, there's a greater likelihood that as a current post that shows up in your profile, it's likely to get more traction.

@AdrienneJenkins Yes they will, and that is why I rewrote some of mine, and I am still getting a few responses here and there, more than I thought they would. I am very happy when my discussions get a lot of activity. I am not all that articulate, but they must be interesting enough to generate responses. Thank you to all that respond., and keep commenting.

When you say rewrite, does that mean you can simply use the edit function rather than deleting them as mentioned by @rosekiss. Which would be the better way to go?

As @topffer has opined it is best that our discussions are left alone. Posts do get noticed even after a lapse of several months sometimes.

Changing the title (and adding relevant tags, if you haven't already done so) can often help an 'old' discussion to get noticed.

I would not delete any discussions, but I do not have any that are not responded to. I do not hesitate to edit them, though. I even accidentally did a duplicate earlier this month, and someone responded. So I edited the second one and admitted that it was like the first one, but also that I added extra information. I too worry about the impact on earnings if I were to delete something.

Given my lack of time to research this issue, I wouldn't delete. There are new people here often and we don't know what their interests are.

If they haven't got any comments, I can't see that there are any earnings to lose - and doubly so for people who comment and interact (since they haven't in this case).

I think it's a waste of time and she's overthinking things. If MyLot wants us to delete posts because of server issues, they'll tell us. I have to admit that I have thought twice about commenting on her discussions, that could cost me money. If only two people comment and she decides to delete it, there goes some of my interaction. I have also commented on some older discussions recently.

Quite right. There is plenty of server space and if ever more is needed, MyLot will simply buy it.

I think topoffer is right. From what I read, you get paid for how you interact, not on who interacts on your post. It may not make a difference, but why not keep it there?

Your posts (discussions, responses and comments) gain value depending on how much interaction they generate, so it is actually the reverse of what you say here - it is the interaction of others with your posts that matters.

If there are no comments on posts deleting them should not affect what's already earned here. I would not remove any posts because there is a chance someone will stumble upon them and leave a few words.

To the best of my knowledge we do lose earnings from deleted posts. I can't remember where I read it though, so I can't provide proof.

No, you don't lose anything. That used to be the case with the old earnings algorithm but it is not true of the new one.

If there are no likes and comments nobody lose money. We are paid only for interaction, it does not matter how many discussions we start every day. Anyway I would not delete a discussion only because it is not popular.

In the big picture, I'm not sure how much impact a few MyLot posts would have in freeing up space. It's hard enough to earn pennies without having them disappear through no fault of our own.
