Fly Racket

70 Do you know what this thing resembling a racket is in my picture? It’s not just a regular racket; on its package it’s written as “Rechargeable Mosquito Beater”. I guess there are many ways for it to be called – Tennis Racket Bug Zappers, Battery Fly Swatter, and Rechargeable Mosquito Bat are some of the names. I just call mine as fly racket. With summer approaching, the flies here are getting even more aggressive. I’ve been using the bat when ever a huge one managed to fly inside. I swing around the bat until it zaps the insect and the voltage from its electric current usually kills it straight away. The rechargeable insect bat/racket/swatter/zapper/beater/killer comes with LED torch and it’s very easy to use. It’s equipped with a rechargeable battery requiring 8-12 hours of charging time before being used. I don’t know how others feel about using it, but to me it’s been quite handy when I’m faced with annoying problems of having a huge fly buzzing around inside my house.

I have one and it runs on two AA batteries. I love it. It's not only effective, it's fun. I call mine "The Electrocutioner"

All these names for it making me sound like such a bad person for liking it...

I wonder whether or not it would work on bees and wasps. It sounds like it should work on them. I am allergic to wasps, so I don't want to take the chance of trying to hit/kill them, missing, getting them angry and having them sting me. On the other hand, I do not want them randomly flying around my house for the same reason. This looks like it would be good for me if it would work on them.

You need to take note of the voltage, it takes more electricity to zap a bee or wasp than a fly. Large spiders, too. Make sure the voltage says it is high enough to kil the larger insects.

@Rollo1 Thank you. That is very good advice. I had not thought about spiders, but they are a perfect thing for these zappers as well, especially when they are the poisonous kind of spider - I hate getting too close to them, too, because I am afraid that they are going to bite me as I am trying to kill them.

@purplealabaster You have poisonous spiders in your place ? I have some giant ones here, but they are harmless and thrilled by humans.

Where I live we have had very few flies and this year I don't remember seeing one mosquito. Strange? All the best!

probably more effective just to hit them with it or any ordinary tennis racket

No, I also have ordinary swatter but it doesn't do the job well. It's the electric current, I think, that makes it effective...

People refer to it with many different names - somehow I've always just said "where's that fly racket?" when ever I'm in need for it.

Yeah, I feel like such an unkind person... What can I do, they annoyed me first - if only they stayed outside I wouldn't have to zap them...

Ohhhhh - I so need one of those!! My little son's classmate was describing something her dad had - sounded like one of these - but I wasn't sure - she just said he could push a button and zap a bug to die!! Right now it's not so bad because cooler weather has hit (mostly - today was actually hot) - but that would sure come in handy in spring/summer!

@sishy7 I wonder what else it could be useful for . . . . Seriously, what happens if YOU touch it? (safe for humans to touch?)

@much2say Oh, I've never tried to touch it while it's on. I'm pretty sure we can get small shocks but still safe enough for us. Hey, maybe @thesids can tell us how it is - he said: I loved getting the small shocks from the net at times.

My son would love that, he hits the bees and things that try to annoy him with a broom stick. He has broken many broom sticks for me.

Yes, I'd think the racket is made of stronger material than the broom stick. Plus it has better chances of hitting the target without getting it broken...

OH! You bought a portable bug zapper, hon! Those can be very nice! They can also be a nuisance, since running one too close to a cell phone can cause it to fizz and the signal to futz out. It doesn't hurt the phone, it is just an inconvenience when/if that happens. Be careful using it on things bigger than a large housefly, though. It says it can handle wasps and hornets and it CAN handle them but it might just make them mad, too!
