I'm In Trouble

I am so upset this morning. My brother has a basset hound cookie jar. He was rearranging things in the kitchen yesterday and put the cookie jar in our office. It was on the edge of the desk and I didn't see it.
The pen we use to put Daisy in sometimes is in the office right in front of the desk and you have to walk sideways between the pen and the desk if you want to go to the bathroom in the office. Well, I was doing that this morning and my rear end hit the cookie jar and it went crashing to the floor.
I am heartbroken. I know eventually he will understand but I hate to have to tell him that I broke his favorite cookie jar (he collects them). I won't tell him when he first gets up as he is kind of cranky but I will tell him before he goes to work today. What a way to start the day.

You may be able to find a replacement for it on E Bay. People are more important than things and he is the one who put it there. I am like you, though and would be dreading it.

Aw, I'm so sorry it was sitting there waiting to be broken. You could look in second hand shops for another. Good luck with your brother.

@Marilynda1225 No, he wasn't upset at all. He just kind of shrugged it off and said it was only a cookie jar. Yes, we do not have to move after all!!

@simone10 I see that your brother wasn't mad at your for breaking the cookie jar and what great news that you don't have to move

It is best to keep prized possessions where they are safe. This sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Sorry it was your fear end and not his.

@ElizabethWallace He did say that it was his fault for not putting it away.

@simone10 His reaction was appropriate, especially considering he did not take enough care with this fragile treasure. Don't blame yourself.

Hopefully he'll understand! These things are annoying but will soon be forgotten (although sometimes get brought up again during rows!). I remember years ago when my sister was on holidays, my mother knocked a beautiful Italian marble statue belonging to her off a bookshelf. I spent ages sticking it together with superglue and was proud of my good job! My sister never noticed it was broken until weeks later and went mad. Of course a little while later she knocked it down herself and broke it into pieces again. So it ended up in the bin!

He did understand so that made me feel a little better. I thought about doing what you did with your sisters statue but it was too shattered to be able to put back together. Plus, he would have been more mad about me trying to cover it up instead of telling him.

@EugenesDDen I like that saying. I'll have to remember it.

You should be more careful in future, when things like jars are around you. You have no choice but to disclose the unfortunate incident to your brother. He may feel upset in the beginning but gradually, he will also realize that broken jars cannot be mended so he or you should arrange to buy a new one.

@simone10 You can't put the entire blame on the position of jar.

@dpk262006 Oh no, of course not. I was the reason it fell and I should have paid more attention.

Try Amazon and e-bay to see if you can find a replacement - good luck

I know accidents happen and it is so sad when they do. I hope you can surprise him at Christmas with a new one. Maybe if you go searching on the Internet you can find a nice replacement for him. He will forgive you because he knows the house is in an uproar and things get placed in the wrong place at time.

@simone10 I am so happy. There is always a happy ending and this time it all worked out. I had something beak once and a friend knew how much I liked it. It took them several months to find me a new one. But they did and totally surprised me with it. That is what made me think about the coming holiday and how nice it would be to give him one for a surprise.
