My One Post Regarding the Death of Bubblews

November 16, 2015 11:21am CST
I knew it was risky having all of those posts without backup. I knew it. I had saved many things in the early days on my laptop, but my laptop died a few months ago which means those saved documents are gone. Due to the lack of communication and activity, I had a feeling the site might be on its way out. Thus, I had tried to copy a few things to other places. But that is a long task when you have 2000+ posts. I didn't wish to save all 2000 posts. Much of the posts were "Good Morning" posts or "What I had for dinner." Those didn't need saving. However there was poetry, a little fiction, and most importantly, writing about the loss of my son, Nolan. That stuff was important. That stuff had meaning. The fact that they didn't give us any warning or any chance to save what we wanted to save was just heartless really. They knew that many of us used that site as our personal blog. I've remained pretty loyal through all the upheaval. I stayed and continued to write after folks left in droves. I enjoyed it and appreciated the earnings that I had earned prior to their changes last January. I just feel like they sort of owed us the chance to copy our property, even if it was just a few days to do it. The fact that they didn't makes me angry. And I'm sad that I won't be able to access the things I wrote about my son.

They cheated until the last day. I am also angry about this, they had to inform people two weeks ago that the site was going to shut down.

It's so like them to do this. Very in character of the owners. They're just fraudsters. I hope they will get a taste of their own medicine.

@ivyparkgirl I cannot count the times I was paid, I made more than 2,500$ with them, but they missed 3 payments in the mid of 2014 and they wrote me saying it was a mistake and they were sending the money. Thing that they never did, there are also other users on this site who had the same problem.

You may be able to have the stuff on your laptop pulled to an external hard drive. I am not sure. Some people have been posting ways to reach the archives. Basically, I saved the poems that I put up there in a folder on Yahoo. I am sorry that you may have lost some important things.

I have always been in the practice of keeping copies of everything I do so I had it all copied and in a file. Except for those everyday howdy type of posts. I am sure thankful I did. I bet a lot of people are wishing they had done the same now.

I feel there should be a way for you to appeal to whomever in order to get those deeply personal posts of yours. I just don't know how and it's making me sad as I've been following your posts there so I know how much of your soul is poured into writing them. They (the posts) should be yours. Period.

I have some of the things I wrote there in files, but the rest is gone. No sense crying over spilt milk, I suppose, but it would have been courteous of them to say something.

I think I saved my favorite posts, and that is good enough for me. When things started going downhill, I stopped writing anything that was worth saving.

@jillybean1222 I remember that one so well. It's about grumpiness and routine. I know it may not be your most important one, but I still cried reading how everyone in your family is doing their best to cope with the sad loss yet it's clearly and understandably never an easy thing to do. The one before that had a somewhat happier tone though, it's the one about your work...

It was sad to lose some writing there. I didn't lose anything of value to the degree you did. What I lost though is my own fault. I knew I'd never make payout and I knew my stuff would eventually just disappear. I had time to retrieve it all. It got most but was too lazy to finish the job in a timely manner.

KARMA is digital nowadays. I am just so happy I left that site after 3-4 months of disappointment. I begged for Bubblews to pay me, out of 3 redemption got only 1.

@jillybean1222 thank you, I appreciate that. You are one of the kindest earning (from Bubblews) person I met. When I shared this story of mine, I've been told that I was doing violations or cheated maybe. Seriously, my Facebook pages & Twitter are even more interactive than those of Bubblews so hitting traffic was easy for me. Charge to experience. Some writers I know learned to keep their posts on their PC when Experts Column restricted the access to their site. Still, I know you could always write about things you know - old or new. Writers never stop writing :))

I am the same way, I would have really liked to copy some of mine. I wish they would have let us know a week or so in advance. Also there are people there that are not here, I can't say goodbye to them or get their email or whatever.

I feel like they simply gave up and just left as soon as they can. I thought something was up when I hadn't seen an official post from any of the people running it in a very long time.

Oh know, I still had over 400 post on there, but should have backup for them all. I agree it would have been nice to have a few days! I knew the writing was on the wall!

I'm so sorry you lost your posts. At the very least, they should have allowed members a few days to retrieve their work. I was fortunate in remembering to save a copy as I posted. Not sure if you would get a response, but it might be worth a try in sending an email and see if there is any way to get a copy of your posts.

i doubt it. i think they have flown the coop. i am still trying to get the cached articles, but not all are cached and i don't remember the title to all 2000 posts. i've retrieved about 300 so far.

I do think they should have said something so we could have copied our work somewhere to save what we wanted to save. Once again the site disappointed everyone-big surprise.

I understand how you feel, my friend. When B's sudden shutdown, my almost 2k posts went with it. Did I save at least one? No. Maybe it's my way of forgetting everything that has something to do with B. But, for now, with the hurt & disappointment I feel, forgetting may take sometime. Yes, I easily earned more than P6k in my 1st 3 months there (I started April 15, 2014l, but I also lost more than P25k, when the changes happened. Before it's unannounced shutdown, I just had $5.83 in my bank. I thought I will still be able to earn its $45 in 6 years! Ha! Ha! Ha!

The management of the site was a really good example of mushroom management - keep them in the dark and shovel manure on them!
