I wanted to do something different this year and send all my grandkids a Christmas wish list for them to fill out and send back to me.. they needed to fill out 4 things... One thing they Want.. One thing they Need.. One thing they will wear.. One thing they will read.. Most children never get anything in the snail mail anymore so i thought it would be something special for just them Today i got back 5 letters..must have confused the mail person seeing" To Grandma Claus"..hahah My 17 yr old Granddaughter wrote on different paper thanking me for the unique way of a wish list..and said i hope you like the item i made for you..she loves to crochet and knit for others. 4 more waiting on and then shopping i will go.. Hope all of you are doing something special with your loved ones too in your own unique way..whether it is kids, furbabies and neighbors or a stranger! let us hear your unique way!

Wonderful wish list. I only have few gifts to buy, my Mom, my niece, my husband and my (ex) sister in law. I have already bought some nice things for the niece and the ex in law, I cannot find anything nice enough to please my mother.

@LadyDuck....wonderful and glad you are a heads start in shopping...Your mother is picky?...a spa treatment?..a nice flower plant?..a shopping trip?..a nice meal out?..

@Rosekitty No, she is not picky she is "old", she is 94, no spa treatment or shopping treat, she does not like to go out anymore. Last year I bought a nice sweater, gloves and a hat. I will go again with something warm she can wear in winter.

Those are great things to get for them! I tend to do the same thing with mine. They always get at least 1 outfit each and some books, and then some toys and whatever else. My daughter this year will be getting almost all clothing as that's what she wants and needs. My oldest will also be getting a lot of clothing as there's not much else to buy for him now that he's working and buying his own stuff.

@katsmeow1213..yes once they start working they are harder to buy for..so i usually give them Gift cards..

@katsmeow1213 I see your point....How about putting the Gift cards in boxes to fool the wee ones!

@Rosekitty Yes, but when they're still living at home and you're trying to keep the gifts relatively even between all the kids, gifts cards are hard as they're not presents that can be opened. I had a ton of ideas, like movie tickets, etc, but that falls into the same category as gift cards.

I dont have kids or even grandchildren. But I want to buy someone on MyLot something. At this point, I am even unsure if my asking her to buy her a gift would be right, but I do wish from my heart to send in my gift. I even dont know if my stating this here is correct or not. So if anyone is upset, sorry, I was being honest.

@Rosekitty I have saved my MyLot money and initially thought of buying cake for kids around (the orphanage run by the Church). But somewhere,by the grace of Lord, I am better today than what I was in 2008 and I feel that I can do this even without the money from MyLot as it is local affair.

Now that is an original idea. I like that one. I am too late to do that this year, but maybe next year I will do that. I like the whole concept of this. it would make things easier.

@Rosekitty I hear that. Although my son is good at telling what he wants. My daughter, well, she always says, I don't know. Not good. The hardest person for me to buy for is my father. He never seems to want anything.

I found an Advent box. Its super cute. Its wooden and opens like a little cupboard. Inside are 24 boxes or cubby holes. Each box has a mini real tree ornament. This way Mom and I can count down the days to Christmas and she can get a handle on what day it is. Super fantastic all the way round. Now I need to figure out what we will hang the ornaments on since we don't use a fake tree and Dec. 1 is early for a real cut one.

@Rosekitty The little ornaments are each so pretty and cute. Hand blown. I hope they do not get broken. There is a little star for the top of the tree that is on the 24th day.

@Rosekitty What I do about Christmas cards is to give the amount I would have spent on cards and postage to the Salvation Army. My friends and family know I do this, and they do still send me cards, but I don't expect any. You are very sweet with your offer though, thank you.

I should steal your idea. I've been asking my grandchildren what they want for Christmas and so far no replies. Maybe if they got something in the mail they would pay attention and actually thin about something they want. I hate waiting til the last minute to shop

That is a super cool idea! It's very practical - you won't have to scratch your head over what to get them and they will get exactly what they asked for. I wish my mother in law could be this creative - shhhhh - but she spends too much money on the worst things for the kids!! I've had to teach them to say thank you no matter what they get from her - ha ha. I haven't thought of anything creative for my kids - but I'm sure they'll be thrilled no matter what.
