I have just read in the news that, this morning, a powerful earthquake (6.8 Richter) hit the Greek west coast.
It happened only a couple of hours ago, still too early to know more, but I fear that a so strong quake has caused damages.
We have a myLotter friend who lives in Greece, Katerina (@thea09).
Please Katerina show up and let us know if you are safe and your house has not been damaged.

I checked the location of Loannina on the map and it appears to be a fair distance from where I understand Katerina lives. Nevertheless, the effects can often be felt for quite a great distance.
Was this a genuine earthquake or just the rumble of thousands of migrants marching through the country?

I read that this one did 2 victims. There are several earthquakes every year in Greece, and they rarely do any damage, although this earthquake was a strong one.

So sorry to worry you Anna, I had too much work to pop onto Mylot. We have so many tremors over here that they aren't really news unless they are a big one. It's a few years since I last felt the earth move! I believe this one was in northern Greece and someone was killed by a rock falling off a hillside.

I dread quakes as I live in the country that has more earthquakes in the world. I hope people in Greece are well. It depends a lot on how houses are built. THe other problem is that Greece has a lot of coast. A tsunami could follow

@LadyDuck True (about the tsunami). I always think about our quakes. When we have a strong one, tsunami alerts are given in many countries of the world.

@LadyDuck I hope katarina is safe. I remember back we she taught me about the different types of olives. It's hard to see natural disasters hit, especially at times like these. Can't someone call mother nature and see if she can cut us a break?

I hadn't heard about this. Do you think our friends here know that we worry about them if we hear bad news from their part of the world? If something happened here, I wouldn't think to let you all know that I was safe - or not! I should bear it in mind if there is ever a catastrophe here.
