Give An Inch

If you give it an inch it will take a mile.
Have you ever heard that saying? I think the last time I heard it someone was referring to their out of control teenager.
What if we applied that saying to discouragement.
When I was a young girl and my grandfather and dad would cut wood for the fireplace I lived as though nothing could get me down. I wanted to be a great helper even if that meant carrying 3 pieces of wood to the wagon at the same time. Sometimes I used my dress as a sort of homemade basket and it really hurt to get a sliver in my hand. Even when I dropped a piece of wood on my short journey from the pile to the wagon I did not get discouraged. I just would picked it up and kept going. Oh how young and beautifully determined I was at that age.
Discouragement has shown its ugly face in my life before and it has always seemed when I give it an inch it takes a mile. One bad thing happens and I let it get me down and then a million things seem to happen. Once I give my focus to discouragement it doesn’t take that long for my entire focus to see every discouraging thing about life.
The beautiful part of me as a child is still within me. I want to be a good helper. Therefore I cannot afford to allow discouragement to take a mile.
We will get through this

great that your determinism kept you going despite the pain and discomfort you experienced

I like to think that if it wasn't for the rain there would be no rainbow and how sad that would be.
