Should I Ditch My Car?

Over the past few weeks, I have been umming-and-ahhing over whether to keep my car, or bust myself down to the rank of pedestrian. We only really use the car for shopping trips, and the occasional visit or jaunt.
Unfortunately, though, those nice people at the DVLA don't give reductions in car tax for light use, so I will have to shell out the full whack in January, and I have an MOT test looming before that, so it could be an expensive time.
We live fairly central, so all amenities are close by, but the supermarkets we prefer to use are some distance away. Another reason to hang onto the vehicle is that my partner's family live 200 miles away, so the car is handy for visits. Finally, I am currently looking for a new job, so the car is a bonus there too.
Decisions, decisions.

For me a car is a must and a dang good one new or like new so it runs well and is dependable. For some the unreliable older car is a nightmare, but I feel the car is a form of freedom and for me could not give it up. I did live downtown in a friends penthouse and thankfully parking was in the basement garage...I love to take drives to get away from the neighborhood I am moving from and for me it saves my sanity. Good Luck on whatever you decide. May sound silly but pretend for a week or 2 you do not have a car and see how that works and feels for you.
