Do some discussions just turn you off?

United States

I won't quote the discussion I just opened, it was so ridiculous I can't believe anyone would waste their time writing it let alone anyone reading it. It had a few comments and I'm still trying to figure out how anyone could comment on such dribble. So my new approach was - I laughed, I mean I really laughed and said some words under my breath. I exited out of it before I left a nasty comment. Sometimes saying nothing is saying a lot. I am sorry I wasted my time and you are probably sorry you wasted your time reading this one!

Laughter is the best reaction to most things, especially the inane ones.

That was my reaction and I think I hear others laughing at it also.

No I am not sorry and I didn't waste my time. There are a lot of discussion that just turn me off. I need some good old fashion meat and spice to make them rich and worth reading. I have found a few discussion on here just don't cut it and some just don't get it either. A shame this happens but it does. You can only try and help so much before you can't help anymore. You can say it 100 times but if a person doesn't even read or listen once what good is it. So now I just pass them by and forget I even saw them. There is not much more you can do.

So you have found some disgusting discussions. In the past we had "like farms" here where a certain group would just go to each others posts and do mindless stuff. Hope that is not one of them Actually there were people here with two or more profiles who interacted with each other. We had something called a "best response"(worthless) but the two or more identities would interact and give them to each other. Of course they were caught, some were banned and I know of at least one who learned a lesson and is back with a different name a few years later.

Hum, I know what you're saying but I am pretty sure the discussion I am talking about must have been something the person thought up while in a coffee or booze induced state of mind!

Sometimes I do that as well. I just shake my head and exit out of the discussion without a backwards glance. Sometimes it's not the discussion itself but the comments underneath it that has me chuckling.

@AbbyGreenhill I honestly don't worry about what others have commented. I read the post and comment. If i went through every comment the post had, I would go nuts.

Do they make Depends for brains? Sometimes I feel like I need them to keep my brain from dribbling out my ears. Especially after spending an hour or two working on the online training videos at work. I try not to come around here when that happens, but I occasionally can't help dribbling on the board. Sorry!

Like any place we have conversations - at a party, at an office gathering, at a bus stop - some of it is going to be drivel. It's just all of us being who we are.

Very true and walking away is the same as closing out of a discussion, but a lot more personal.

@kiran8 You can't really like it until you read it that's pretty standard. I know of a site that has the like button before the article so you are almost tempted to hit it first.

There are lots of discussions I read without posting a respones, as i have nothing to say. I try to make quality discussions myself, and one of mine might be considered dribble, but people have laughed abouti it and responded to it. It is hard for me to come up with decent topics, as I am just not as articulate as some others in here, but I do my best. I am just glad that my discussions do have responsesa and comments, and I thank everyone for taking the time to read my discussions and give their feedback.

@AbbyGreenhill Yea, that can happen too. I like humor in the comments as we all need to laugh, at times, and with things going the way they are for me, laughter is very good. It does help me to forget my troubles.

@simone10 No one knows who I was talking about so no feelings should be hurt. The person is right here in the USA - speaks perfect English, types fine...the discussion was just a few words...nonsense words, which I would imagine has been del. by Alex by now.

@AbbyGreenhill I think most people here are honest in their attempt to write a discussion. There are some people who don't know the English language very well and some people who aren't great typists. I don't let something like that keep me from reading their posts just because it may be difficult to read or understand. We are all human beings and have feelings that can be hurt.

There are posts which don't interest me but I like them anyway because they are honest expressions of something the writer is interested in. There are others I strongly disagree with but as long as the disagreement stays cordial, I enjoy discussing them. The ones I struggle with are the "something must be done" posts which moan about a problem but don't offer any solutions.

There are some cases I assume where giving a solution isn't really what the person asking wants.

I had wondered about this.. as a newbie, I assumed there would be people who don't quite "get it" here - and I see my wonderings have been confirmed, haha. I'm going to bet the Dribble Speaker isn't really interested in discussion.. or, on the other hand, it could simply be a sad case of not having basic literacy skills.. either way, it's a big bummer.
