A big hermit…

the big hermit crab

I had 3 posts in the old bubbling site where I mentioned about the hermit crabs that come out here in our garden. Tonight, my son called me again to show me this big hermit crab in a Japanese snail shell. The hermit crab was somehow shy because it did not come out when I went to see it. My son said it is scared of me. I had to wait for several minutes, until it came out, moved, and let itself fall in to the bushes. I wonder if we can post a video here. Is it allowed? I tried to upload but it cannot be.

@SIMPLYD no, I don't think so. They are fierce hermits, taking away the shells of other snails (like shell for rent?).

That is so neat! It took a beautiful old snail shell for its home! Is it still alive in your garden seeing that this post is old?

it was alive when i took the picture; in fact, i even have a video taken, and when the crab moved, it fell in the garden. i think it is alive, and it transfers from that shell top another again.

that is a shell of a big Japanese snail, but can you not see the claw coming out? The claw is that of the hermit crab.

People here will keep them for pets, as it is too cold or something for them in the wild. I believe you would need to make a video and then post a link.
