Plant some, save some.

Bunch of fruits, big savings. We have eggplants in the plant boxes. Instead of having ornamental plants, just like the neighborhood, ours is different. They grow easily, and bear fruits fast too. These eggplants can be considered organic. Free from spray or pesticides and fruit and vegetable skins are thrown there like their fertilizer. Two storms has passed, and they survived. Eggplant is one of the most used vegetable in our are. Fried, sauteed with other vegetables, locally called "pinakbet", or in vegetable soup that we call "dinengdeng", and we can do the famous adobo too with eggplants. With the current price of eggplant, which is around $2 a kilo, it is a big savings for me, us and the whole neighborhood (another story to tell). The eggplant that we planted, has a "fruitful savings". Do you have some vegetable too in your garden?

Where I live we cannot grow at this time of year, although I did bring in a planter of herbs to grow. I cooked my first eggplant this year as it is not something I was used to. I will definitely plan to cook it more, even if I have to buy it in the store. I have not planned yet for a garden. I know I would like some various squash.

Right now we only have cabbages, because it's the only vegetable that grow when it's cold. In summer I have courgettes, eggplants, peppers, salads, cucumber, tomatoes and many fresh herbs.

@Lucky15 It is possible that some herbs do not grow well, but mint and cilantro (coriander) should grow well.

I love eggplants. Besides, the plant is lovely. I have never made it into soups though. Maybe you can share a recipe.

That is so wise of you that instead of ornamental plants you have those eggplants . Like you said , this is one veggie that is so versatile. I don't have a green thumb , so i don't plant . But my mother has a garden with orchids and flowering plants their front yard . At their backyard , they have some eggplants too , lettuce , Thai chili , lemons and other fruit bearing trees such as mango and star fruits .

We live in an apartment so we don't have a vegetable garden. I would love to someday when we move into a house.

I would be thrilled to even have a garden. I live in an area with very limited land.
