While I was out running errands yesterday, I was offered a job in a local shop. I haven't worked in the bricks and mortar world for years, but I really would like to see some steady income. It's 30 hours a week in the afternoon, so it fits my schedule. I am very familiar with the store's merchandise and how they do things, so it should be easy to get me up to speed. Wish me luck!

This afternoon. The owners have been working long hours and they need help ASAP. It doesn't pay that much, but even a little coming in on schedule will help with our bills. I can wear very casual clothing, so I don't need to buy anthing.

Is it just for the holiday season, or will it be permanent? I would like a small job myself. Even thirty hours would seem like a lot. It sounds like this shop regards you as a known quantity.

It's permanent. They've had a hard time keeping staff and they are feeling the stress of long hours. They need someone they can trust to work late afternoons and be alone so they can have some time off.

No the shop is open 7 days a week, so I'll be working some weekend afternoons as well.

I think it will work out well for everyone. When I get used to the routine. I'll shut the store so they can have the late afternoons off.

Thank you. I am excited. It might be fun to be out with people more. Of course I'm not used to standing up for hours. We'll see how that goes. I can sit when people aren't in the shop though.

@NeldaHoxie it sounds like you need to be sure to have good shoes. I have to do back exercises to help cope with standing a lot at work.

Thank you. It might be nice to be out of the house and with other people. Perhaps that will make me less nervous.

Paying down some of the medical bills will make it very worthwhile. That will make me sleep better at night.

@NeldaHoxie Probably for two reasons, your financial worries will melt away and you will be tired.

That's great news! I've been talking lately about looking for something. The shops here slow down for the winter, though, so we'll see.

Good luck! I have not worked in retail for forty years until four months ago, but am enjoying it.
