A little flash fiction to get me posting again. Footprints She gazed out the window counting the footprints in the snow to distract from her parents arguing on the other side of the bedroom door. 20 footsteps on the garden path, 20 pencils in the desk tidy, 20 days until Christmas, 20 minutes since the cup flew past her head. 30 footprints to the house across the street where Danny Perkins is clearing his grandma’s path, 30 days since Danny’s Birthday when he brought in sweets for the whole class. giving her 3 whole packs of Haribo that day before showing her how to hide them in the lining of her coat. 30 little bites of happiness to be treasured. slowly eaten over three nights, before putting the empty packets in the lining of her coat and forgetting about them.30 minutes since her father found them. 5 it was getting hard to count, 5 thumps on the wall, a scream. Danny stopped to look up at her. 5 tears on the window sill. 5 Seconds of silence before he opened the door. She closed her eyes. (I owe a big thank you to exbubbler MereJ99 (who isn't here on mylot) for giving me a much needed kick up the butt and a writing prompt)

That was really exciting and suspenseful, and we are left with mouths open at the end, about to scream without really knowing what we are afraid of. We only fear that we know. Excellent. I wish Mere99 were here.
