I want to return to school

I want to return to school, and study how to become either a guidance counsellor, or an occupational therapist, or something along those lines.
There are a few problems: 1. finding the money to be able to do this. 2. Not really knowing where to even start the process of getting into a college. 3. I work full time as a taxi driver (which I am starting to fear for my life, this is a different article I will write later) I would have no time to go to school, even if I could do the courses on line, and there are no night classes offered anywhere near me.
I have been dreaming of this for awhile, and just don't know how or if I should even try to make this come true.
Anyone else stuck in a living situation that they want to change?
Hugs,
Melissa D

You have already blocked all roads that will help you fulfil your ambition. The only alternative is to be happy where you are.

@Mkds312 Fortunately I have never been bullied. And high school days were the golden days of my life.So far as you are concerned, things would be quite different now when you are a matured person.Gone are the days when you used to be a shy teenage girl.

I think we have all been there at one time or another at a job that we can't afford to leave but can't stay at either because it doesn't benefit us. Have you thought about changing your shift at work to nights and go to online courses during the day time or if you have a laptop do them on your laptop stop driving for an hour or so when class is in session at a place like mcdonal's that offers free wifi to its patrons. trust me its worth the sacrifice if all else fails quit driving a cab and take a crappy paying job at a place like Mcdonald's they are more flexible when it comes to your education they are actually for encouraging the further education. Some even offer to help you with your schooling if you take a course of study related to the business like business management. Good luck.

@Mkds312 i am sorry I know how hard that can be I went through the same thing which is why I decided to work for myself and its almost the same problems lack of work and things like that but at least nobody pushes me around while paying me crap money and making me more unhappy as if I don't already have enough problems. I am good with working with my hands so its what i do. I wish you luck honestly i feel for your problem and if you have kids it only adds to the stress.

My closest McD's is an hour away, lol. :) And I already work the night shift (8pm-6am) with the taxi job, and my boss won't hear tell of changing my shifts. But you are right, I may just have to quit the taxi job and get something else, which where I live is very limited. :(

Those are very good as they are in high demand. Why don't your try to get some type of grant? Start researching online. Some courses you can do online at your on time.

When I went to college i did all mine online I didn't go to an actual school. You can get financial aide for help as well and there's grants out there. You would just have to choose the school you want to go too and then speak with a counselor about the program and what they have to offer and the financial aspect of it. Good luck to you

I have thought about going back to school before as well but with 3 children and another on the way it seems quite difficult. Also, I was never very good at schooling and I don't want to start something I might not finish.
I know it would better my families life and I want to better us but I don't know if I will ever be able to do it.

As stuck as can be. Finances are the biggest issue and time not being too far behind that. I've been dreaming of getting a small woodturning/craft shop off the ground and have spent most of my time flat on my face. All I can say is keep dreaming and keep plugging away. Fortune may smile on us yet.

It is never too late to go back. Try talking to different academic and financial advisors at different colleges that can give you the education you need.

Be patient...sometimes live run on the way where we do not do it, but we have to do for a while. If you really want to come back to school, trust me one day you will find the way...

In the US the first step to applying for college is filling out FASFA, it is how financial eligibility is determined. I don't know if you have a similar process.

well, women working as taxi drivers just shows we can do jobs for men. I hope you will be able to do your dream in the near future.

Go and talk to a college near you or an online school just to get a feel of how they could help and what they have to offer. My sister worked during the day and then did college at night 3 days a week! It will also really help motivate you seeing where you could be. :)
