Leaking Roof

We have been battling a leaky roof for a few weeks. This has involved two climbs onto the roof with a variety of gunk and attempts to plug up the holes. Nothing has worked so far. This weekend we will try to replace some roofing screws with the idea that the rubber seal has dried out in the summer heat and cracked, letting the rainwater trickle in. I hope this theory proves to be the correct one.
Have you ever dealt with leaky roofs? What did you do (besides stick pots under the leaks)?

The contractor that we hired did a lousy job on the roof. We had an extension done to our house and the roof had been leaking for the past few months. I've asked my husband to do something about it. He did call another contractor but the guy said we cannot just plug the leak because what happened is that the contractor that we hired to do the extension did a terrible job. So, he suggested redoing the roof. I can't imagine having no roof while the contractor is doing his work with the rainy season coming. Right now, when it rains, I have to get the pails ready.

until you can get someone up to the roof all you can do is try to protect anything the leak can spill on really - hope you get it fixed up soon and the damage isn't too extensive or expensive to fix

@Sheilamarie78 I don't blame you there. We wouldn't be able to afford to pay someone right now either.

That may be the case but we can't afford it right now so we're trying a few things first.

I dealt with a leaky roof and using the pot solution until I couldn't any longer and had to replace the roof. Certainly was an expensive repair. Hope you don't have to replace yours

That's the benefit of renting, for sure. We rented for most of our lives and it was great to have someone to call when there were problems.

We had a leaky roof at our cottage and we just broke down and replaced it. Luckily my sons and son-in-law were able to do it.

@Sheilamarie78 I understand sometimes that is the best thing to do right here and right now.

We are going through that right now with part of the roof in our sun room. My husband will take a ladder and go up there and use patching material to try and plug it , but it still leaks. We really need to hire a professional to repair it.

I hope you've gotten your roof leaks sorted out. Our leaks have been mostly fixed, though it still leaks on the porch. I think it's getting too dangerous to fix that one now as the temperature hovers around freezing.

Since water can do an awfful lot of damage to a home, I don't think I'd mess around with self-fixing. It may be time to call in a roofer.

That's a challenge. Plastic wouldn't work here because the winds and soon snow would get rid of it fast. I hope you don't get any more leaks.

@birjudanak I think there's a plastic layer underneath the tin roof here.

That can make walking through the house like going through an obstacle course.
