Child Marriage in the US

I found this article (below) through my Twitter feed last week. I thought it was interesting. In the article it talks about child marriage being in the U.S. It says there were 3,499 children marriages in the years 1995 through 2012. It mentions some of them were 16 and 17 years getting married; probably those were ones who had gotten pregnant that their parents suggested for them to get married. Here is the article:

The legal age here to get married is 18 . But there are also marriages amongst those who are 16 years and below because their tradition allows it. But it is disturbing if a child is forced to marry an adult which unfortunately happens here also, it's just that it's not known to authority..

I think you need to be old enough to understand what you are doing. I think sixteen years old is way to early.

In Germany you can marry at the age of 16 if the other partner is older than 18 and a law court gives its consent. I've never heard of younger children to marry here.

I the UK the legal age for marriage is 16 with parental consent or 18 without. I don't think there are many that get married that young though, in Scotland it is 16 even without parental consent x
