Why Me?

On my way to the doctors yesterday, I heard a pop under the hood on the right side. I immediately looked in the rear view mirror and saw nothing laying on the street. As I went to make my turn onto a different street, it felt like driving a car in the old days with no power steering. I was only 3 blocks from the doctors office, so once I pulled in, I raised the hood and here was this very long belt askew. After the doctors appointment, I drove home and just before I got there, the Battery Charging System and Engine Coolant Temp lights came on. I barely made it up the 750' driveway. I shut it off and the engine was still RUNNING and there was fluid running onto the ground (coolant). I immediately called the repair shop and they just picked the car up today. I have no idea how much this is going to cost. Any body else ever had this happen?

Oh dear Nanette, things keep going wrong for you don't they? I hope it doesn't prove to be too expensive.

I don't think it sounds like anything serious, just some replacement parts but it could still run into money. I hope that it's a quick and affordable repair.

This sounds pretty bad, I hope it's not costing plenty of money.

Was it an alternator belt? If you were losing power as you got home, then it sounds like the alternator wasn't recharging the battery. The alternator belt transfers energy from the engine and rotates the alternator, charging the battery. The cost of the belt should be under $50. The cost of labor should be for about an hour (maybe $79). Maybe the snapping belt hit the engine coolant container, breaking it. I'm not sure about that part.
