I have a love affair with science fiction books. I know it's not every bodies cup of tea, but I love a good scifi book. My favorite science fiction books are Dune by Frank Herbert, Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson and Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton.
What's your favorite book or film ?

Wow. there you go. would be great to mix all those movies together. Terminator hunting aliens with a mad professor.
the last science fiction movie I saw and really liked was Ex Machina. brilliantly filmed, clever story line and food for thought.

The author is new to me, shame on me, apparently he won the Pulitzer price for the book Angela's Ashes. A name to remember.

@peterstreep could you also classify Hunger games as a dystopia sci fi?

@esfes025 yes I think so, it's a special genre in the science fiction that deals with societies that come into live after a great disaster like a global flood or a atomic war.

Hunger games is more alternative world then scifi I guess. But yes it's seen as scifi.
Divergent is a sort of dystopia science fiction so yes that counts ;-) In a way Mad Max furry is also scifi.

The only Sci-Fi thing I really like is the show "Defiance." I also read half of Stephen King's "Dream Catcher" book before it got too boring for me lol.

I haven't followed Difiance, normally I find it difficult to follow series. Accept for A Game of Thrones, but that's more fantasy then science fiction.

@peterstreep I watched 1 episode of Game of Thrones and that was it for me. Reminded me too much of Lord Of The Rings which I fell asleep through lol.

@DanieGirl80587 ;-) oh dear, no blockbusters for you. I really liked game of thrones, because there is no good gay/girl everybody has it's good and bad sides. And it's full of sub plots and intrigue.

No problem, I know it's not every bodies cup of tea. There is huge variety in the genre though. From speculative fiction like "the handmade's tale" from Magaret Adwood up to cyberpunk science fiction like the novels of William Gibson.

I like SciFi movies more than with books as they can really show you how it looks like. I like Jupiter Ascending. It's really a twisted world.

I happen to like some books that are sci-fi, but mostly because I stumble across them having heard they are good stories. I don't usually seek out sic-fi. I enjoy shows like doctor who, star wars, etc. books, i guess i am more of a fantasy than sic fi (i.e. lord of the rings, harry potter), but i enjoyed the Martian. Not really sci-fi. but out in space. :-)

I love science fiction, but it's a while since I read much of it. I used to read mainly short stories and would grab second hand copies of Analog, Galaxy and F&SF whenever I could. Most of the novels I've enjoyed would be pretty old by now - Pohl's "Gateway", Heinlein's "Time Enough For Love", Clarke's "Childhood's End" and "Earth Abides" by George R. Stewart are just a few of my favorites.
