Wellies and Boulders

Having just read Anna's ( @LadyDuck ) post about the Greek earthquake I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your concerns. No our house wasn't demolished and we never felt a thing. A boulder fell off a hill in the island of Lefkada and killed someone, as you can see from the photo it is easy to see how boulders would be easy to tumble in a tremor. Sorry I don't post more often but busy with work. Day off today and heading into town and wouldn't you know that after weeks of high temps and sunshine it has just started to pour. Good job I bought the leopard skin wellies for the dirt track! A girl needs a bit of dazzle in the mud. I'm sure that will scare off any crashing boulders.

What happened to the wellies that you put in the title? I only read this post because I wanted to know about the wellies, so I fell cheated now.

@thea09 I cannot believe that I actually missed that first time. Who on Earth buys leopard skin wellies?

@Asylum I do. Just because I may be reduced to wearing wellies there's no reason I have to be frumpy.

Pay attention Barry, the wellies are for the dirt track. I almost needed them this morning as an olive picking truck had broken down and blocked the muddy road but the teen helped to push it out of the way.

I am glad you are safe Katerina. The leopard wellies should be enough to stop the boulders, but be careful.

My regular walking route doesn't involve passing by things that could fall on me. More likely to get hit with a bit of virulent sea spray.

@thea09 A sea spray is always better than a boulder. We are not in a dangerous area, the main route does not pass too close to the mountains.

@thea09 A very small village, I imagine it's not a great life in winter and in summer they are probably full of tourists.

@thea09 Did you expect something to happen from watching the news?

Wellies come in all sorts of weird and wonderful patterns now. Wish they'd had them when I was growing up. You could have black, black or black and that was it. And pleased you're okay.

They still have the heavy and hideous black rubber things but they have such fun ones too. I wanted pink ones with a bow but they only had them in children's sizes.

@thea09 Now this is interesting, as I never thought of you being a woman who likes pink and bows. Best wishes

I am sure the leopard wellies are a great boulder deterrent, but still, try not to stand under any boulders. Even ones that look solid.

I will be sure to avoid all boulders, they do have a tendency to fall off onto the mountain road in bad weather.

Well those do sound like exciting wellies. Too bad about the rain but a trip to town is always fun.

Which is why it is meant to be earthquake proof - not that I trust my builder!

Kalimera Katerina - charoúmeni méra, enjoy your coffee with a friend and hopefully the weather will be good, mind the rocks and boulders that might be in your way.

Kalimera Lany, the weather has turned nasty so we will be huddled indoors today over hot chocolate.

@thea09 that sounds just as good - blow the beautiful Aegean sea a kiss from me when you peek out the window later. I hope you are well.

Great to hear from you! Aren't you lucky to have work! I was so worried about you and your son. Are you staying warm this winter? I love the image of the leopard skin wellies. Here the rain boots aren't so fashionable but maybe I don't know because I never see anyone wearing them except those horrible things fishermen wear when they're wade fishing. You have the same attitude about earthquakes as people who live in California.... I'm glad you're okay.

Lovely to hear from you too Carol. The work is enjoyable and means we'll have heat this winter. The wellies aren't for venturing in public in unless I bump into someone on a sodden dirt track!

Yikes. Glad you are fine. I heard about a man who was crushed when a boulder fell off of Chapman's Peak drive near Cape Town a few years ago. I think it must have meant it was his time to go, the timing of a moving boulder landing on a moving car made it seem like fate.

I tend to avoid the mountain road in boulder dropping weather.

Glad all is well in your part of the world, especially with the wellies to brighten an otherwise grey day. Glad you had a moment to drop by.
