Trump and the Muslims

Recently, the internet was ablaze with shock and anger over something Donald Trump said.
It is understandable that people would be horrified to hear that Donald Trump said that Muslims should all be forced to register and a database should be kept of all Muslims in the US.
Except, he didn’t say it.
The video clip that was aired was edited to make it appear he said it. The truth is that it was a CNN reporter who asked if Trump would favor a database of all Muslims. The idea was one that Trump had never suggested before. The reporter seems to have come up with the idea.
But Trump didn’t say what the reporter wanted him to say. He didn’t, as was reported, answer “Absolutely” to that question. Instead he talked about securing the borders and building a wall.
Then the reporter asked: “Is that something your White House would implement?”
And Trump answered : “I would certainly implement that. Absolutely.”
Trump was saying he would implement the border security and building a wall. But CNN edited out all of that so that we would all think he had just announced that he was planning to keep a database of all Muslims.
Now, I am not writing this discussion as any kind of apology for or endorsement of Donald Trump. I am writing it to illustrate how the media manipulates us. They decide which questions to ask. They edit the videos. They show us what THEY want us to see so that they can be sure that we think what they want us to think.
Which is why I keep asking this question: Why does anyone watch the mainstream media? Why do we do that, knowing how many times they have edited videos and lied to us? Why do we not seek out the truth? Why are we not angrier at being manipulated, lied to and having our opinions fed to us?
And don’t tell me that you watch the only network that tells the truth. They all do it. They do it for ratings. They do it from bias. They do it because they think they are smarter than you are, and they do it because they can.

And they do it because it works. It was a newspaper man, after all,who said that "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." And not just Americans.

Yep. They know that outrageous statements get the audience. Trump has given us a lot of outrageous statements. So they were simply trying to get another one. But they didn't, they just made it seem like they did. It's very sad to see how they have abandoned their sacred duty - to spread truth.

@Rollo1 - The narrative is more important than the details, I'm afraid. The only way to escape the cesspit of manipulation is to show concern for different narratives.

Trump has enough real issues with out the nonsense. But, do you have a link to the unedited version (cuz I'm super lazy like that) I'd love to give the full piece a fair listen. Because my first thought was "gee, if only we had some historical parallel we could look at to see how this turns out"

@Rollo1 I can't find a single copy of any purportedly unedited video. In fact, the video I am seeing in the link does not appear to be edited. If there is one out there, I would love to see it, because I am arguing with someone on facebook over the issue now and I would love some solid proof.

@Rollo1 yeah I tend to mistrust news now, most of the time, hard to know when you have found what someone really said or did

This is exactly the reason why I don't watch the news channels that often. And in those rare times when I do, I'll flip to several news channels in the hopes of possibly getting half the truth. I never accept anything from the news media as being the "truth."

@Rollo1 It's not even just the news media that is lying to us...our own government is guilty of it as well! It's sad that there is no trustworthy sites we can rely on to provide unbiased, truthful information!

I will admit I'm surprised they all do it. I don't watch CNN and won't bother now, I refuse to watch Fox for the same reason. I trust ABC and that's the US news that I watch. I will be very disappointed to find out they are liars too. You just did a job on my trust bubble... but that's ok, i will do some research on this too because you made me... doubt my ABC.

I think that NPR is the least biased and most truthful news network we have.

Beats me why we let them fool us all around. It does not surprise me that this happened.

I think that the absolutely last thing we should believe are sound bytes. Especially if we see them on any social media site to any network with a political bias (all of them). We're going to have to go back to the old system of going out to hear the candidates in person if we want to know what they said.

This is nothing new. People must understand that news reporting in the U.S. COMES WITH BIASES. That is shown by what they cover and HOW they cover it. I always point to sports for an example of the obvious bias in the media: the same baseball writers (who vote for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame) who say they would NEVER vote for Mark McGwire (who, in 1998, was credited by these same writers with "saving baseball" after years of declining attendance with his chase of Roger Maris's single-season home run record) because of his "steroid use" turn around and say they WILL vote for Barry Bonds (who, in addition to using steroids, is also a convicted felon for purjuring himself (lying about his steroid use). What's the difference? The answer lies in the bias of the baseball writer who thinks one is a sinner and the other is a saint, when they're both cheats.
If you remember George Zimmerman, the Florida resident who shot Trayvon Martin, NBC was caught editing the 911 call to make it appear that Zimmerman had engaged in "racial profiling." After other networks picked up on this NBC fired the people behind the editing and issued an apology. Zimmerman even sued NBC because of it.

The news media decides the narrative and then makes the facts fit. The story was more sensational with an edited tape, so that's what they presented. And even years later, some people still don't know that the tape was edited. Because no one reads the corrections, no one hears anything but the original sensationalism.

Yes, what the media "reports" seems to be what a lot of people consider to be reality. But based on that, you sure do hear a lot about Donald Trump, who as far as I am concerned is about the most abnoxious American I have ever met. Why do they feel that they need to put the worst out front? Makes you wonder doesn't it?

They probably have their agenda when it comes to certain candidates. After all, they are not superhuman and they have political leanings and views. But they need to report the news in an unbiased way, straight news. And they don't seem capable of doing that.

I hardly watch the news, I prefer reading books, non fiction mostly. To people who are vulnerable, yes, they can be effective manipulators.

If he did not say it then it looks like CNN would be afraid of being sued. Can he sue them for lying on him? It is just like the famous people like Celine Dion. They have it out that her and her husband are getting a divorced. Why would they say that if it is not true? I hardly think Celine is divorcing her dying husband, who is on a feeding tube. If she is not divorcing her husband, can she not sue them for lying on her?

That is really bad, I know they do manipulate things but this is beyond just that.
