I must be doing something right at myLot!

I am not bragging about my bank or how many friends I have gained here. No, this is much different. I try to do my best welcoming newbies and encouraging them. We all know how it feels to be new. I also have encouraged all of you to do the same. This morning when I checked by my messages here on myLot I found one that I have to share with you. The message is from a new user who thanked me for encouraging new members. Wow, that really made me feel good, and it touched my heart. Reach out to the new members and offer encouragement - it's a good thing to do!

I still remember when I joined the other site and I knew nobody, I was so grateful to the few who were kind enough to follow me. Let's help the newbies.

I remember my very first days at all the different sites...some were scary and lonely at the start!

It really gives one a warm feeling when people thank you for welcoming them. I, too, like to try to put people on the right track and am often thanked for giving them a good start. It is sometimes rather disappointing to see people come here and make a first post clearly without even bothering to try to find out what the site is about and how it works. Presumably, they have been told by friends or found it mentioned somewhere that MyLot 'pays you to post' so that is what they try to do, even if they have so little English that they are incapable of reading more about the site! I think that every site has its fair share of this kind of new member. A few of them do stay and become good, regular members and you can almost never tell, at first, which of them will, so it's always worth welcoming them as warmly as possible and pointing them in the direction of the essential information so that they have a chance, at least, of making a go of it here.

Thats wonderful ! I normally respond to at least one or two discussions started by new members or the ones that have no responses ...I agree , as a new member you are not sure of yourself nor the site. so helpful members really can help at that stage ..

The moment I get a notification that someone has followed me I immediately follow them without even looking at their profile and this is my way to welcome them.

It might work that way but sometimes it's good to look at some of their discussions first to see if they are into topics you are into.

I am trying to reach out to everyone. I know it must be discouraging for new members not to see any responses so I try hard to give them all some love, as many as time permits anyway. I know when I first joined here it made me feel nice to have some responses. Everyone treated me so nice. It seems there is not a lot of posting happening today though.
