I saw a sweet and touching news video this week. A French father explains to his six year old son why they are not moving away from France after the recent attacks. They are at the scene of a large memorial built by hundreds of people leaving flowers.
I have included the YouTube link so you can see that this father uses his head and his heart to make his son less fearful. But I noticed something else. This father and son are immigrants themselves. France is their home. They are speaking French fluently. It is obvious that French is the first language of the little boy.
France has always welcomed immigrants. Their motto is Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood. This makes what the father tells the son even more meaningful to me.
What do you think of the father’s explanation?
A father and his little son share the most heart-warming conversation during an interview at the scene of the Bataclan attacks. Here is definitely the right ...

it's just sad, sad that people can harbor so much hatred

The worst part of this, is that the perpetrators believe in their hearts it's the "right" thing to do. That's perhaps the worst of this entire ordeal

@Drosophila I honestly have trouble understanding the attitude. I have never hated a group of people like that.

@Jessicalynnt Miserable people do miserable things. Kindness (flowers) will win out in the end, but I wish this would happen quickly.

True, but many in the U.S. think we are the only place where this happens. I know this isn't the case, but you probably hear the ignorant speak like we are where all immigrants want to go.

@Marcyaz I loved the interchange between the father and son. Their eyes told a great deal. Much tenderness there.

As long as there are gentle souls like this guy, then kids will be fine in the end.

@ElizabethWallace Thank you for saying that. I think of Gandhi and MLK, and about the power of love and kindness. And how incredibly courageous (and difficult) it is to remain gentle in the face of aggression. We'll get there.

We need one world filled with love and respect. Since we don't have that, horrible things will keep on happening. Until God takes over, sad things will keep on happening. There is no other way that will work. It is what it is!

It is so much better when you can hear the sound of the little boy's voice. It was smart for the interviewer to keep silent.

@ElizabethWallace Exactly. It was a wonderful way to let the child know that all is okay and he is safe.

I think for adults it is a choice, but kids have to be protected both physically and emotionally.

I think the father was right in his approach with his son. You cannot be simply moving places to escape a problem, what if there is no life guarantee in the place which they were to move next. France's memorandum has always been keeping peace & its a plight too see it reel under such attacks.

What a beautiful and moving video. We all need to remember that most of our families were immigrants at one time.

@JudyEv It is being spread by people with a vested interest in making money off the resulting turmoil. Sick.

@ElizabethWallace You're probably right. A lot of Australians are very ignorant about - well, any religion really - but particularly Islam. And many just follow whatever the fad is and like to bignote themselves among their friends. Half the information being spread simply isn't true but the bigots don't want to listen or investigate for themselves.

They are a perfect representation of what we need more of in the world. Dads need to stick around and teach their little boys to become good, loving men.

My sister was in Paris that weekend visiting her daughter who is studying at the Sorbonne.
The ferry back was crowded with many who could not fly out, and she sat by a Libyan man who said he just felt very uncomfortable to be a north African in France at this time and had up and left before completing his business there
