Another myLot question?

United States
November 22, 2015 12:00pm CST
According to the Guidelines and I quote: "How do I earn money exactly? - It's simple... Just participate! Any time you start a discussion, respond to a discussion, or comment in a discussion, you are making a contribution that is eligible for earnings." With that said, how do 'likes' fit in the earnings equation? I am assuming they don't. I am seeing more and more people who only respond to comments with a like and not a return comment. If they are not commenting but only liking aren't they missing out on earnings?

I assume liking is considered an interaction as well. May not be valued as high as the other interactions in the algorithm, but still included.

It doesn't say 'like' specifically and it mentions the other ways. Hum??? Hopefully Owl will be around to answer!

@AbbyGreenhill It mentions about interaction as quote: "The more that other myLot users interact with what you post, the more money it will make".

@sishy7 That still doesn't answer likes specifically. Is liking a comment an interaction? That's up for interpretation I think. To me that sentence means one thing and to others it might mean something else. I know that likes count for the Hot Discussion list and the other list under explore, maybe that's all they are good for.I have to head to the kitchen I have more bread cubes in the oven!

@AbbyGreenhill,I think,a like too is a kind of comment. It's,you may say,'a silent comment.'Just a nod.So there must be a little payment for it.May be a penny or a fraction of it.

@BethieAnnie I agree. You are right.Interaction matters. You can encourage newbies only by interacting with them, not by liking their posts.Mylot is a site for interaction.

@BethieAnnie I agree likes don't lead to continued interactions.

If others are correct, and likes count, then I would assume it's a fraction of a penny. Even so, I figure likes alone are less likely to encourage continued interaction. Likes, are nice, but the value is in sharing your thoughts.

I never thought that it was true either but after reaidng comments in here, yes you do get paid for someine liking your posts. Of course the most you get is when they comment back, as you know they are taking the time to read it, like it, and comment back. So, now, you know tha tyou do get paid for people liking your posts.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh, yea, now I know what you mean. I always like and comment whether it is my own discussion or someone elses. I just feel that it is the right thing to do, and it helps them too, so why not do it. We all need to help each other, but some haven't grasped that concept yet, and I hope in time they will.

Again I am not questioning likes to the discussion - I question the writer of the discussion only responding to comments with a like and not a return comment.

@AbbyGreenhill pretty much. to be honest I use like as a way for me to track "read this already", lol. unless I totally didn't like it. Which happens, just not tons

I was told by someone, I don't know who, that we do NOT get paid for "starting" (posting) a discussion. We only get paid when someone "responds" to that discussion. Do we also get paid for "comments?" I have just in the last hour learned the difference between "comments" and "responses, " according to "How to use MyLot."

This is from the help section: How do I earn money exactly? - It's simple... Just participate! Any time you start a discussion, respond to a discussion, or comment in a discussion, you are making a contribution that is eligible for earnings.

I have never imagined likes as being part of the equation. That is really stretching the meaning of interacting. It's like giving a thumbs up in a conversation while at the same time remaining silent. As you say, likes are not mentioned in the definition above.

If we are correct in our assumption people who start a discussion but don't replay back to comments but only like them are losing out.

I also assume that likes do not count, I am pretty sure that they are not part of the equation.

I've always wondered that too. I don't like likes that much, as they can kind of "end" conversations, but I've actually been leaving more of them lately.

Exactly - if I were to just 'like' your comment then the conversation would end. But I'm replying to. I am glad I am not alone in my thinking.

I don't know if likes count or not but I sometimes like as an acknowledgement that I've have read someone's response or whatever.

Only Mylot can answer your questions with the correct answers. Though I guess earn the liked person, not the liking one though. I don't know....

'Liking' a post does not help in earning. One needs to post comments/respond and interact to earn here on mylot. To 'like' a post is easiest thing to do and if 'likes' are also counted for earnings, many users may only 'like' the posts/comments all day.

@AbbyGreenhill I am not too sure about interpretation given by our respected friend Forever the grinch.

I am not sure, but liking is sort of a response to a comment so I think it is eligible for earnings.
