Stuck for an hour in traffic while the Santa Clause parade went by

I'm trying to get to an appointment and I'm cutting through the downtown. Or at least I tried to. The road I needed was blocked off-I had no idea why. I get the the appointment, and I'm in a haste to leave before it get's dark because I'm not familiar with the detour I must take. In my mind I'm being smart thinking I would avoid all the traffic. And I ended up going strait into it. And then getting stuck. For an hour. Alas, the Santa Clause parade is apparently a very large event here. Ever get caught in traffic, and didn't know why, and then were smacking your head for not being better prepared for something like a parade? I'm still...kinda smacking my head.
