I am on a Mission

The doctor thinks my blood pressure is high. I think usually it is not but I want to make things better. Lately it is high in the morning when I get up. Makes no sense. Of course that means I need more exercise.Better diet. Lots of lifestyle changes. I am looking in to the over the counter meds I take, to see what I need to leave off. I will also look into foods that benefit. I think celery is supposed to be one. Meanwhile, I have been online for a couple of hours and now I should go do something more active. Oh, and get ready to go out of town Wednesday night.

I still think my blood pressure is usually in the normal range. I feel like if I lost weight it would help several things. But like you say, it is easier said than done.

Today many people have the high blood pressure problem. I am glad that actually you know how to take care of yourself. It is easy to said than done. But there is no other way except for the exercises and healthy diet. This problem can not be cured today, the medicine can just control about it. By the way, you shall eat less salty things. Salt is a main factor to lead to high blood pressure.

You are right, medication controls rather than cures problems.

Yes, exercise and adequate sleep will bring down the blood pressure. Another thing is the amount of salt in the diet. If you do not want to make drastic change to your diet, just leave the salt out. you can monitor the effect of salt by having salt-free days, and days of normal eating.

I think my problem is that I do not get enough good sleep. I know many items come with high sodium, but generally I do not even know where the salt shaker is.

@GardenGerty If you use bacon, that is a source of high salt. If possible, buy fresh meat, and do your own seasoning.

It is common for our blood pressure to be higher in the morning, because it gets thicker while we sleep due to a lack of physical movement. Studies show that most strokes and heart attacks occur in the early morning hours, I know that to be true as my brother in law suffered his first stroke early in the morning less then a year ago. Try to reduce the amount of sodium in your diet, once you start reading the labels, you have to be surprised at the amount of it in many different food choices.

Thanks for the explanation. That goes along with why they recommend if you are on aspirin therapy they say you should take your aspirin at bed time. I am pretty sodium conscious. It is also important to increase your potassium foods.

I don't like exercise, but I like nature. One way I sneak exercise into my life is by going on more nature walks. There are many ways a nature walk can reduce blood pressure. I hope you can find a solution for your blood pressure. Making many life style changes is not an easy task.

Just have to make them a little at a time. I think where we have moved is a good place. I know just looking at the sky and growing things does calm me.

Everyone's blood pressure varies widely throughout the day. If I check mine as soom as I arrive home it is far higher than it will be 30 minutes later.

I find that I do better remembering to drink tea--green, herbal, etc. in the afternoon. Some teas also help reduce inflammation.

Garlic is another good thing that helps blood pressure. Also lose weight, eat products with more potassium like bananas, reduce cafffiene intake, eat more omega 3 and 6 fatty acids (there are good supplements out there with this) and dark chocolate also helps. And there are several other things that is all natural.,

I believe a little upward creep is normal as we get older. Mine had come down quite a bit in the last twenty years but it is on its way up. It has to stop.

I am trying, @gabs8513. I did not get here in one day or one year and it will take me a while to get on top of things. BP is not dangerous right now, do not want to get there.

I take blood pressure meds, I never found the OTC things to be that helpful honestly. If you are against prescription meds, at least monitor your pressure at thome so you know how it is..tracking.
