What a Waste of Time

I borrowed a friend's metal detector and took it to the local beach on a relic hunting trip. I pictured myself in the local newspaper after unearthing a hoard of Roman coins, but it was not to be. I think the detector had a fault on it, because it kept beeping when there was no metal object beneath it. I dug holes every few feet - forty-seven in all, but I never found so much as a penny. Disheartened, I gave it up and came home. I told my partner about my failed mission, and she said that if I go out metal detecting again, I might have more success if I don't wear my steel-capped boots. The old ones are the best.

many metal detector users genuinely make that mistake and most users give up the hobby within a very short time

I hope you don't go out dressed as an ISIS beheader like in your profile photo. You might get a lot of attention from the papers if you do.
