I just read an article that describes a new invention by Google. It is a prototype wearable device based on the Star Trek communicator. In the Star Trek series Captain Picard and crew members used the lapel pin to communicate with other crew members and artificial intelligence. Google has created a circular device with a built-in microphone and Bluetooth. It connects to a smartphone. Worn on the chest, this device allows users to search interactively a voice command. The device is still in the testing phase. What do you think might be pros & cons of this new device? Do you enjoy full use of modern technology? Would you opt to get one when they are available?
It's right out of Star Trek—literally

Interesting! When this lapel device replaces the phone completely, rather than just letting you connect to the phone in your pocket, then I'll consider getting one.

I agree, what's the point of having one if you can't ask Scottie to beam you up, right?

@rebelann Not sure how I feel about being broken up into little bits and built up again at the other end of the trip... Remember what happened to Mike TeaVee in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory?

I can't see any great benefit in that.

@dorianna It's just another way for people to look like they are talking to themselves.

Since you need your smartphone to work with it, does seem redundant :)

@birjudanak It is true..we gain more benefit staying with the time. This little gadget is still in the testing stage so it will be a little while before it is available. Sometimes, they are just fun to use, but this would make searches so fast..I think it is cool

Yes, just as some held out for awhile with the smart phones and gradually gave in so that the majority enjoy the features of the phone, the time will come when most of us will make use of this as well.
