Happy Anniversary, Deer!

United States
November 23, 2015 2:38pm CST
Before the grammar police pounce, let me say, that is the way I intended to write it. Yesterday was my son and his wife's first anniversary. They went out and had a nice evening out. But the evening didn't end up so great as they were hit by a deer on the way home. It happens a lot in this area. Especially this time of year. It's deer season and the deer are frantic and running every which way. A little ironic. My son has gone deer hunting every day that he didn't have to work since deer season opened, but has not bagged anything. Well, I guess he has now!

My brother has lost three cars to deer. He lives in Oklahoma.

Do the insurance companies pay up for such accidents?

@Auntylou Usually only if you carry a full coverage policy.

It happens wherever deer are - doesn't matter what state. My husband had one jump into the car - came right thru the driver' side window - he was lucky. That was on a major highway at rush hour.

They are dangerous here, they can come from out of nowhere! I've seen those deer sirens that you put on the front of your car, but I don't know if they would work. We have lots of deer out where we live, so we are used to them and we take extra care. You just don't expect it to happen as close to town as he was!

Oh wow, how unfortunate for all involved. I'm glad your son and his wife are alright. Definitely ironic too, about the hunting (or lack thereof!) :)

It could have been a lot worse than it was. I'm thankful he's a careful driver. They weren't hurt, just scared and shaken up. I teased him a little that the day he didn't even go hunting he actually bagged one!

@Ponder243 Oh absolutely! Deer accidents are serious, so I'm glad he's careful and nothing too bad happened. And it definitely warranted a bit of teasing ;)

That is potentially a bit scary. Are they okay? My husband hit a stray cow on the road when he was going deer stalking in our early married days. The car looked almost as bad as yours.

Yes, they are okay. The insurance adjuster decided the car was probably totaled out though,

Hope the critter was still eatable after the crash! Glad your son and his wife were unhurt

@Ponder243 Now that is a shame as it would have compensated in some degree for wrecking the car and shaking everyone up!

@Auntylou The deer wasn't killed.. He / She ran away. My son spent a couple of hours looking for it and even went back the next day but couldn't find it.
