What advice would you give your younger - or present - self?

The advice could be a general, all-encompassing life lesson such as "speak up more, be less afraid" or about a certain situation you wish went differently, whatever you wish to reflect on. Personally, the most important thing I'd say to High School Chelsea is to be less harsh with myself. I beat myself up for years as a perfectionist, and never felt like I was good enough or did well enough, even if everything was going perfectly well. I missed out on some things due to worrying, rather than being in the moment, that I'll never get back, and I feel a real loss from it. Another is to forgive myself for my past (this goes for Present Chelsea too!) I'm not really close to anyone anymore yet Facebook constantly reminds me of the relationships I once had, and are really painful to remember, particularly through pictures (the breakup of my marriage being one of them). Of course I can just not go on Facebook but my point is that I always feel guilty for my past actions, rather than just accepting them and moving on to live my life happily. It's a struggle, but I do try my best to move forward.

I have a tendency to feel guilty too, which is silly I know.

It IS silly, isn't it? I mean, it's one thing to feel bad about something you've done (whether or not it was actually wrong), but to continually feel guilty about it for years and years and years.. it's madness! I've decided I can't let myself live that way.

I think mine would be "know that society is prejudiced - it's not about you but them"

Wow, good stuff, seriously. To the point and powerful. And very, very true. I hope that you may experience more kindness, and less prejudice, with time.. although of course, society will be the judge of that! (Ironic, yeah?)

@SavvySprite Yeah, society all over the world really hasn't progressed much, despite what HAS been done with technology and such.. you'd think by now we could get past any differences and just let people be people, but nooooo.. I'm so sorry you've been hurt like that, but your advice for yourself is true - it really is about them, and not you.

@chelseaearnsmore you never know but in some ways society is stuck in the dark ages. If I'd known that when I was in my early 20's (or remembered it more recently) I might have been less hurt. Heyho.

Indeed! I'm sure everyone could tell their past selves a thing or two about all of those areas of life.

Mine would also be to stop being harsh with myself

It's amazing how mean I could be to myself - I would say things to myself that I'd never say to another person! So I'm doing a lot better now, trying to be patient, rather than harsh, kind of like with a little kid who doesn't know any better.
