Do you take inventory of your wardrobe?

I do. Some of my close readers are probably already thinking how 'shallow' I am for paying attention to too much details - sometimes unnecessarily as it is often just trivial stuff. What I'm about to reveal will confirm that, so there will be no doubt how strange I am. I have an organized spreadsheet of my entire collection of clothes. It is listed by types (pants, skirts, tops, etc), colors, and any other details I can possibly thing of. It is numbered, color-coded, highlighted, and any other features I can insert to make the list workable for my needs. I can check at any time how many I have exactly for each item and what they are. And I can plan my outfit from top to bottom complete with the matching accessories, handbags, and shoes for, say, an entire month just by playing with the spreadsheet. Weird, huh?!

I have a list of what I have in my wardrobe, this is to avoid to buy similar clothes and to buy shoes and bags that can go well with my clothes.

Oh wow, I didn't think I'd find another with such list... I saw one of my sons did the same with his wardrobe - first I was proud, then I began to concern if he'd end up too weird like me...

@sishy7 We are not weird, we like to have everything under control.

We males have no need to take inventory because we rarely have a large selection of clothing.

@sishy7 For most women a medium selection usually begins with a list of 50 pairs of shoes.

@Asylum Ha ha... but not for this woman... I only have 5 pairs - at least I can wear different pair everyday to work if I really want to... But my black pair seems to get chosen the most.

The beauty is I have only a medium selection of clothes - not too large that would make my list unmanageable, yet not too small that would make the exercise unnecessary...

You are so "OC" (Obsessive-Compulsive) How can we make an inventory of our wardrobe? Hehe.

Ha ha... yeah, I'm pretty sure I have that disorder... I list everything I have in an organized manner in such way that I can use the list to plan different outfit everyday without having to repeat wearing the same combination twice for at least the whole month if I want to... So, you can imagine that my list is not just randomly writing down each item - it's very systematic so I can easily see my inventory or the complete list of items, how they go in and out the list, etc...

No not weird at all!! But yeah if I start noting down the wardrobe items, all I will need is a little napkin!! LOL

Ha ha... but if you write neatly in really small print you can still fit a lot on a napkin...

That's going too far. It would drive me crazy. Maybe you can get a programme to auto-combine your clothes.

Ha ha... yeah, for all I know there's probably some app out there that do just that... Nah, even if there's one, I like my own spreadsheet better...

I think that sounds a good thing to do. Maybe you could volunteer your skills to a charity organisation as well.

@sishy7 Use your skills for the common good. It really helps with self esteem. You can look back and say " I did that" and be proud you are making a difference to someone.

That's something to think about. At the different work places I've been, I was tasked with several reconciling and organizing projects before which always involved so many minute details others would easily overlooked.

If there is one place that needs some law and order and that is my cupboard. I depend on my memory which is pretty good at the moment and so may not forget what I have in that conglomeration of clothes and stuff

Yeah, I thing what makes my spreadsheet workable is actually because I don't have extensive wardrobe. I'm able to put everything on one view and work from there in mix-and-matching my outfit. I can plan it somehow so I won't be wearing the same exact outfit for the whole month if I want to just by moving things around on my list. That's just a little too much, I know... But, it's fun for me.

In a way, that's what got me started on jotting down what I have. Not for shoes, because I don't have too many pairs of those. But for tops - I keep finding some of those were 'buried' under the ones I keep wearing over and over again. So I decided to organize them in a way so that they will all get a turn to be worn.

Ha ha... yes, I realize it's just way too much! Actually, when I first set up the spreadsheet was probably the hardest and took the longest time. Once it's going, maintaining it is no problem at all. I even enjoy playing around with it trying to mix and match my outfit for the week or so while challenging myself not to come up with the same combination twice... Weird, huh?

Oh My, it seems I am sadly lacking in the fashion awareness area! I grab the first thing I see that I'm in the mood for wearing. I am aware of what is in my wardrobe though, as there isn't much.

When it comes to trendy fashion, I'm not much of one either. In fact, once I realized how much I already had by looking at the list, I just don't feel like buying anything new anymore.

Uhm... yes, I have to admit, that is very odd, indeed! I don't own enough different clothes for me to worry about having enough that I can't/won't remember what I have or what pieces are dirty, so aren't available for me to wear whenever I need them. I have several pairs of work jeans, two pair of everyday jeans, several work shirts, quite a few different styles of tee shirts and other pull-overs. I have the usual accessories for these types of clothing... three different color belts, four different styles of shoes, socks and underwear that don't matter what color or type as I am (usually) the only one who sees them. I have two light jackets and two heavy coats. That is my entire inventory of clothing in my closet, hon. (I do have several jean shorts for Spring, Summer and early Fall wear, but they are put away for Winter, now.) And at that, I have more clothes than a lot of people! LOL! Just call me a clothes horse!

Ugh! Although I keep a 2-page hard copy of the most updated list, losing the file might be enough for me to just forget all about it as I don't think I'd feel like starting all over again. My wardrobe may not be extensive in itself, but the file has become rather huge over the years with all the data I entered as my daily mix-and-match planning.
