A friend of mine recently caught his girlfriend in an unacceptable position with some other guy recently. He was planning to marry her before this incidence. He shared this thing with me as he needed someone to share his problem. He was weeping. He was depressed. I tried my best to calm him and accept the facts. But he seemed to be broken. I shared my failed love story with him. He was still not calmed down. This raised a question on my mind as well....Why do people cheat in relationships?

uncacceptable position? made me wonder what kind of position she was in. I mean seriously, maybe he was just misunderstood things.
people cheat for so many reasons oh, I mean excuses. Being bored in a relationship could be the simplest reason. but you gotta dig down deeper if you wanna know why. it's just the relationship doesn't work for one or both of them. I wish your friend a great luck. he must ask her though so he will calm down. they need to talk through things.

He wanted to talk to her further as he was serious about their relationship. But she avoided talking to him.

He should consider himself fortunate that he found out before he married her. As to WHY? The cheater is not serious about a committed relationship. That's it. It's not rocket science. They just don't care. They don't care enough about the other person to devote themselves wholeheartedly. I used the word "care" because love is not even in it. It's messed up! But that's what it boils down to.

@amitubale137 Such things take time to heel! As a friend all you can do is be there to talk to him and try to take his mind of such things but constantly talking about something else or doing some activity!! He will need some space too as he needs to get this out of his system!!

@Rationalwriter I am doing everything I can do for him. Even I was a victim of betrayal by my ex. So I know how it feels. But I also know that after few months, he would be normal and move on!

My first relationship ended like this!! Not exactly but I found out that she was having an affair and when I confronted her she left me!!( Now I think it was best that she left me, it made me realize my own value)
Usually people cheat when they are not happy with their current relationship.. I know this as my ex wasn't happy as I am not that rich and she left m for a rich guy( who eventually dumped her after 3 months, LOL)
But sometimes, people are just not too serious about a relationship. !!

My ex left me because she "started realizing that she actually never loved me" (according to her) after 2 n a half years of relationship.

@boiboing it is ok to find the best but it is not ok to always cheat. normal individual who is actually serious about his/her relationship, would consider her/his partner before seeing another person or putting their previous relationship to an end first, seriously the need to two time doesn't exist. and Not all animals always in search of new partners.

@kyrararen No, sadly I think you'll find it's very normal human behaviour. We are animals and it is in our DNA to hunt for the best mate. It's only societal rules of behaviour that stops more cheating. That and most of us knowing that we've got something worth hanging on to.

@amitubale137 You when i look at cheating i consider it as lack of respect for oneself and one cannot respect him or herself them he/she cannot be able to respect the other partner

Simply tell your friend - everything happens for good. That girl was not suitable for him, therefore it is better to forget her.
However, he should confront the girl in question to know the reasons of cheating, if he is seriously interested to know the reasons. Reasons differ with each person, there is no fixed rule.

@amitubale137 - It is Okay, if she accused him of spying her but she need to still reply, why she was roaming with the other guy?
She should explain herself to clear doubts, if she is sincere towards your friend.

Tell him that it's better that he discovered her girlfriend's cheating before he proposed marriage to her . She is not worth his tears after all .

@Rationalwriter Thats what they put in front as a defense for their cheating act. Its a very powerful tool used by cheaters (Male/Female) to defend themselves....Its like "Ulta Chor Kotwal ko daate"......

I think they do it because there is something lacking in the relationship and they think they wont get caught.
