Inflation and pay commission

Out here, we have pay commission, that periodically studies the pay scales of GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. Based on that, the basic pay scale is determined. Then there are add ons, such as Transport Allowance, Leave travel allowance, House Rent Allowance, Dearness allowance, blah blah. That is just cosmetics for reducing taxes being paid by these folks. I am wondering if Dearness Allowance is paid, and it is almost always more than the inflation rate on food stuff (which is higher than on manufactured goods if anybody knows), where is the need to upgrade the basic? And such allowances and upgrading of basic hurts others and does not help these employees. You see it is the businessman on the road who is going to increase the prices of everything. Vegetables will become costlier for EVERYBODY, even though there are very few government employees. Similarly pulses and rice and bread and eggs will all zoom up proportionate to the pay scale of these people. More people will reach the poverty level. How is that tackling poverty? Shouldn't pay scales be compared with average pay scale of other employees in private enterprises?

Absolutely! On the other hand, government should do more to regulate trading, so basic living items are not unaffordable.

@vandana7 Typically the farmers themselves don't get paid enough for their crops either, it's the distributors and so on who reap the profit.

Yes they should pay according to the price of things. And all equally, but sadly, we know in all places, there is stupid people high up earning too much while the average person lays in poverty.

I think government should equate the jobs and then determine payscales and it should be valid for all private or public companies as well as government. Secondly, taxes should be deducted at source and payment should only be through bank transactions. Effectively, employers don't get away stealing from unorganized sector.

@vandana7 There are enough people on the poverty level here in Latvia and they just raised the transport cost which in this case means that there will be people who will have to spend at least half of their salaries for transport alone. I am glad I work at home and hubby just retired and his transport is free.

It sounds as if whoever is at the top of the pay scale causes everything to be difficult for those below them.

I believe that in most countries there is a big disparity in average pay scales. It's a shame.

When the work content is the same, and the nature of the work is the same, why should government employee get more than what others get? The disparity should only be based on quality and output.

@vandana7 I agree, what happens in some country is that the government employees are paid less and this is also not right.

i just want to say that our country behind just because of make differentiation for people, like government employee become more and more richer and other are become more and more poor.so if government person get chicken biryani in 15 rs then why we not get in 15 rs instead of 70 rs.you also know that person is good in study but not get admission or job who they deserve but some person who is not good in it but just because of some government faver they get job by money so they become our M.L.A. or P.M.or anything else then what happened.

@vandana7 oh that is really good, so if there is a sudden rise in inflation you are sort of protected, you do wonder how some things can keep getting more and more expensive x

We have a different situation here. Government pays more - more often than not. There has to be some measure.
