Can Human Overpopulation Destroy The World?

According to experts, human overpopulation is more dangerous to this Earth and its people than climate change is. Currently the world has a population of about 7.2 billion and it is likely that by 2050, this figure would be over 10 billion. They are saying if the world population continues growing at the rate at which it is going, a time will come when mankind cannot get basic human needs such as water, food, shelter, security, etc and that will lead to severe conflicts all over the world over these scarce resources. It's kind of scary when you consider that this is possible. And that the human race can be destroyed the more our population grows. What's your take on overpopulation being capable of destroying this world?

There is another theory that natural disaster's occur in order to keep the balance. Higher population, higher chances of strains of bacteria strengthening in order to kill off a percent. Higher population, more deaths from pollution. Etc... Nature will keep it even.

It does seem it's the only way to balance out our species @moffittjc we sure don't want to stop having babies and people like me(elderly) are living longer and healthier.

I was just thinking about this! Nature always has a tendency to balance itself, so there's a good chance that some type of virus or plague will wipe out a good portion of the population and give nature a chance to heal herself!

You have a very strong point there. Natural disasters and even man-made disasters can play a role in reducing the world's population. But that would be extremely tragic. Imagine natural disasters killing millions of people or billions in order to keep it even. That's very scary.

There's no question that overpopulation is going to be a major problem in the near future. But I suspect that we'll all end up destroying each other before overpopulation gets to much out of control.

I guess a good example of how mankind would destroy each other before overpopulation does its job in destroying us is through things such as warfare involving the use of chemical and nuclear weapons. I was reading an article the other day in which the writer was saying something similar to this. He categorically said before overpopulation got the chance to destroy the world, man would have already done so with man made disasters. It's very sad, the world we live in. No matter how you look at it.

I think overpopulation is going to be a big problem as it already is a problem.

Until and unless we don't increase our resources and particularly water and food items, survival of around 10 billion people will be a challenge.

Under-population is already destroying us, as is the wrong way of living. "Overpopulation" is just an excuse for the all-powerful Royal Families to implement programs that have been killing us off for decades. Don't try to justify it; your arguments don't justify the economics of murder! We urgently need to start collaboratively working on large-scale infrastructure projects for the benefit of all & to facilitate trade, as has already been demonstrated over & over again by members of the BRICS countries, especially China.

Yep, we are the earths worst enemy. Man is culling all other species except his own, but there is a heavy price to be paid for that, more and more children are born with fatal diseases like HIV and Cancer so that soon few will be able to have children of their own. If the birth rate drops drastically then we may have a chance for our species to survive. (just don't let anymore dugger wannabees start families)

I think we need to be trying to stop this rapid population growth

Has anyone ever thought about the weight we put on this Earth and how long will it be able to hold us all and with an even more population it will become worse. Will the Earth sink in or what will happen.
