We did Thanksgiving our way one year

When my husband and I got together in 1997 we started hosting Thanksgiving for our families. I'm not talking a ton of people, a total of 12 or so. My mother had always invited her brother for holidays so it fell on us to invite him.
He complained about everything. He questioned and criticized everything. Not once did he bring anything to the dinner. So my husband and I came up with a plan.
The following Thanksgiving the plan was - no turkey! My husband made two huge pans of lasagna and he cooked chicken for me since I can't eat certain food. Told our families about the menu but asked them not to tell the uncle.
Everyone arrived and after the greetings and chit-chat they all headed to the dining room. You should have seen the look on his face when my husband put a big plate of lasagna in front of him! It was priceless. But, guess what - he didn't complain once and he actually said how good it was!
We continued to invite him for holidays until the day he died a few years later.

@Jessicalynnt I think he realized it was done for a reason. He was something else, too many stories to go into.

My husband is part Italian so pasta was perfect for his family.

All holidays now it's just the two of us, very easy, no problems at all.

You can't please everyone all the time, but it seems you did manage to make him happy!

People eat things they don't like in the name of tradition. It's crazy.
