Stop Rushing and Slow Down

Did you know that rushing to get things done can cause you stress? Well, that's what happens. And accumulated stress over a period of time can be the #1 killer for many heart-related diseases. So why not slow down for a while? Learn to handle one chore at a time. And do take time off for yourself to "smell the roses" and admire God's Bounty.

The only thing that stresses me out...is Xmas..., buying presents is just not what it used to be, when even stocking fillers cost so much money... for a piece of rubbish

@bookbar Personally, I find Christmas to be soothing to my spirit - - - with the christmassy songs/music, the spirit of giving and sharing of joys. It is also a great time for family get-togethers. Could I please make a little suggestion? You can make some lovely unique gifts yourself if you have interest in crafts or perhaps even buy a dollar gifts. Isn't it a thought that counts? Most children would delight in these. We need to teach our children not to expect expensive gifts, but find joy in inexpensive ones.

@bookbar Alas! Its so true. But slowly and steadily, we could reverse the trend, just one bit at a time.

Hi Gabby, I see you've made a start, so welcome. I'm the least stressed out person you could find, I just go with the flow. (Just a tip - if you make a post introducing yourself, saying a bit about you, more people will see it and come to welcome you. It's a good way to start on here as everyone is very friendly and they try to help newbies).

@sishy7 Delighted to meet again. It feels so much at home here coming across several past friends. After Helium, Bubblews, most of us felt ditched and abandoned. Thanks everyone for instilling a sense of belonging in me once again.

I think that is why I stayed on these islands for so long. I got tired of moving and worrying about jobs and work all the time. I needed a break. So now I have plenty of time to sit around and smell the roses, grow flowers, go fishing and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

@Gabugs After 18 I never had a permit place to live. I lived in many different places for my work. A few month here a year there and so on and so forth. Then I was sent here for 3 years. Extended my stay another 2 years then again another 2 years and then I say no more I'm staying. 7 years and finally having a home it was time to settle down.

@poehere Wow! What a great choice you've made! Perhaps you had a strong motivation or maybe not. I for one would not have the gumption to take such a giant leap and uproot myself. But I suppose each one's case and lifestyle choice we make are different. [On the side note]- - - -I envy your "verve." But alas, you are younger.

Lots of illnesses are caused by stress. It is good to slow down. It is also contrary to how our society teaches us.

Indeed yes, stress can be debilitating and rob us off our energy too. Unfortunately, in our highly complex and fast-paced society, we strive to do more. In the bargain, the quality of our lives deteriorate. Thanks for the insights.

I am quite good at bi-passing stress when acting on my own terms. I usually head everywhere early - getting the bus or train before the last one I could catch when possible so I'm not rushing in at the last minute or made late by any delays

@Gabugs the only problem is getting somewhere with no shops, cafes or shelter to kill time with in the time between arriving and actual appointments in bad weather

@arthurchappell Wow! Your wise comment made me think of my hubby. He too believes in heading early everywhere. At times, it irritates me that he's acting overcautious to avoid possible eventualities. But in the long run, it helps.

@lnlemay Perhaps yes! But rushing to do more things each day can be invigorating for some people too- - - especially for youngsters. Besides, there are several other factors can cause stress like financial or health problems for yourself or your loved ones. You would need to look into the root cause and talk to someone you trust.

These are good tips. Sometimes I think multi-tasking just creates stress. It should be sufficient to tackle one task at a time.

@Judy Ev Yes, multi-tasking not only creates stress, but also makes our work output inferior. We surely cannot have the Best outcome if we are rushed to complete other jobs- - be it at home or at work. I have repeatedly noticed this trend when I'm cooking for the family if I do not focus on putting my heart and mind in it. Try it if you haven't already.

I agree that rushing is a!cause of stress. The faster we do things, the more we have to do and shorter time frames create pressure felt as stress and anxiety. Our society seems to be in a rush, why not slow down for the holidays, plan ahead and make wise choices.

Not only does rushing around cause stress. So many people worry about things they have no control over. I'm a culprit with that too, even though I know better. I mostly only rush around when I'm working windows and have to be at my next job without much time in between. Otherwise, I'm fairly laid back considering I do work two jobs three fourths of they year.

@syllogism Perhaps, you tell her "sometimes to take time off and she's not listening." My suggestion is: share doing some of the work she seems to be busy with. Maybe then you can expect having a stress-free wife.
