The Golden Girls 4 Lyfe: What's Your Comfort TV Shows/Movies?

I am in love with The Golden Girls. I even named my bunny Betty, after Betty White. I have watched them since I was a wee one with my grandparents, and grew up to enjoy each lady's sense of timing and comedic style. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia have forever been, and always will be, "my girls." Let me point out here I know they aren't real - but the women portraying them (Bea, Rue, Estelle, and Betty) brought them to life so vividly and fully. I have probably watched all seven seasons over a hundred times. I'm not exaggerating or kidding - I've had to buy the 1st and 3rd seasons twice due to discs no longer reading. There was a solid year of my life I would have The Golden Girls on whenever I was home because of how comforting the characters voices, personas, and even story lines are. I was in a dark time and it was one of the few things I held onto, as funny as that sounds. It soothes me in almost the same way as watching The Wizard of Oz does (I watched that one for a week straight while I had the chicken pox, and often go back to it when troubled). So do you have any comfort tv shows/movies you turn to when you need to feel better?

There are some shows on TV that are far better than anything one would expect. The Golden Girls was one of them. And the actresses were absolutly out of this world.

Absolutely! The actresses themselves added something so special to the show. Did you know that Rue (who played Blanche) actually tried out to be Rose in the show, and Betty White tried out for Blanche? After a few readthrus they decided it wasn't working quite right and to switch the roles, and that's how they both became their iconic counterparts! :) Funny to try and picture Rue being naive, wholesome Rose haha.

No comfort TV shows. But every year I have to watch "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.

I can totally dig it! I think that's one of my dad's comfort movies, we always watch it at Christmas too :)

I can watch Fraser over and over even though I know what;s coming. Helps me go to sleep listening to a show and not having to watch it. I also watch Golden Girls reruns now and then.
