We had a wonderful day seeing our son over in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Lunch, which I'll write about later, took a leisurely two hours at Church Road winery restaurant.
The region is well known for its wine, fruit growing and horticulture. Whenever we go we always bring home whatever is in season. Today, as well as the bottle of Church Road wine, we stopped at a couple of roadside stalls on the way home, buying asparagus, carrots, a leek, and the seasonal fruits, strawberries and cherries.
The cherries especially are a treat, these being our first for the season.
We find the vegetables at roadside stalls are always so much fresher and less expensive than that in the stores, or even the market. Are you lucky enough to enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables where you live?

During the summer we have many farmer's markets and roadside stands where we get fresh vegetables. I also grow my own

You will have to finish them all before they lose their freshness. I know they will be frozen but nothing like the fresh -just -plucked from-the-garden feel.
