Saudi Arabia, Why??

I really don't want to come across as bigoted or xenophobic, but I have just learned of something that puzzels me. There is a tent city in Saudi Arabia saved for one week of the year for the pilgrimage to mecca. Every muslim is supposed to journey to mecca once in their lifetime IF they are physically and financially able to do so. During this journey Muslims renew their purpose to the world.
For this reason a tent city was built. There are 100,000 tents, included with bathroom facilities, kitchens and air conditioning. This city would be a great location to house at least a million refugees. Yet, Saudi Arabia refuses to allow this as it would interfere with a Muslims journey to mecca. Would your God not appreciate the lives saved? Would it not fufil a purpose in life to save a million people?
Why doesn't Saudi Arabia open this city to refugees? Why don't they help their own neighbor. I know the US and Saudi Arabia are friends, but I'm sicke that a whole tent city sits empty, when it could be saving women, children, the elderly and men.

Having had an Arab sister in law, at one time, may I just say, you will never fathom how their minds work, when they believe the whole world is against them anyway...they may have the trappings of wealth but their minds are still tribal and helping others only extends to those who can give them something they need....

Apparently they have given residency papers to 100,000 refugees from Syria already so the rumours that they just slammed the door on them are not true. Could they do more? Sure, who couldn't. But it's a really horrible place to live both in terms of the temperature and the restrictions on personal freedom. I can't imagine many would want to go there and potentially be abused.

Interesting question, but I guess it might have many political as well as religious reasons, mind if a sensible person used their brain they would allow those who need help to use the tents. Altham said none of the refugees are heading to the Arab countries they are heading into Europe so that might be the reason the Saudis have not opened the tent city to them.
