Selfie trend has spread over social media like fire in recent years. Instagram announced in 2013 that it has 30 millions pictures on their website which are tagged as selfie. In another study Pew Research Center claimed that 91 teen have posted a selfie on social media atleast once in their life. So why is it, why people make so many selfies and than post them on social media. Why do young adults saturate their Facebook and Instagram accounts with photos of themselves. Psychologists say that they hope for likes and positive feedback from their followers. Making selfies does no harm but when you look at the implications of trend you have to think twice. Some psychologists say that selfies actually promote narcissism and a preoccupation with oneself. There are Even more damaging scenarios. To be more prominent young adults take sexual selfies which results in embarrassed parents and broken relationships. There have been reported cases of people harming themselves physically while taking selfies. So next time before you post a selfie think twice, are you posting it for fun or for getting comments? I think it depends on what they are taking the selfies for. I have taken some because no one else was around to take my picture when I wanted it or needed it to be taken.
