Starfruit that is.
I have seen a few posts talking about starfruit so I thought I would join in.
However, I am picky about eating it.
I am originally from Florida and when I first started eating it a neighbor had a tree and he said I could help myself to it at any time... he did not like it.
While in the state I live in, you can buy it, it is not the same as it is either too ripe or not ripe enough.
There is something about picking ripe fruit off the tree.
Oh it is called starfruit because if you slice it, it looks like a star.

I have never heard of it before. I agree with you that fruit right off the tree is best.

I have never had the impression that it actually tastes of anything. I suspect they're not ripe when we get them in the UK.
